Sounds like he's very close to the end of the road. Bad heart condition and it's incurable. A great player, manager and thoroughly decent person.
So sorry to hear about it, he was the same age as me I think, that brings it home even more.

Attractive centre forward, decent manager who you always wished would take his own handbrake off. Certainly seemed/s a decent man too. But he did look like a schoolteacher. (SGB is still bitter over a detention at the Grammar School ........ so I hope Mr Duncan was a bit of a Mr Chips and well-loved.)

You 73 Dancing? I'll have to show you even more respect.

Both my niece and her husband are Heart Consultants and I've still got a dodgy ticker.

Hope the poor guy lasts a while longer WITH a decent quality of life. His Wikipedia entry gives a run-down of the David Elleray moment.

I'm 70 next year Dev. For some reason I thought Duncan was the same age as me so didn't look it up. Still a bit of a shock though.

I thought you were younger than me Dancing.

70 is best kept quiet.

Watched some Strictly for the first time in ages. Liked the chubby beaming naturalist. Looking at his stern-and-good-looking doctor mum and dad in the audience I imagined them thinking, "what the hell happened with him?" I'm afraid his arse will cause more earthquakes than fracking when he does a Samba.

Passed away earlier this evening (Sat). Gave me my best ever feeling as a Spireite at Old Trafford many moons ago. Built teams on a budget. Not pretty but bloody effective.
Rest in peace John.

John Duncan was a decent man. Football would be better for more people like him, but he didn't manage teams how he played as a player........ Hope he didn't regret that. Gave us some good times though.

I must, however, admit I've never felt better as a Spire than seeing Rod Fern run The Owls so ragged their fans were emptying out of their ground quicker than a Nordstream gas leak, and that wasn't a Duncan team.

But you did a great job too Mr Duncan and thank you giving us a team that deserved to play in the Cup Final. That's my most unforgettable moment and I hope you were better at forgiving Mr Elleray than I've been.
