LEIGH BROMBY COMMENTS ON SCHOFIELD DEPARTURE:

Quote:Following the dismissal of Danny Schofield as Huddersfield Town Head Coach, Head of Football Operations Leigh Bromby has spoken about the decision.

Having won just once in eight Sky Bet Championship fixtures to start the 2022/23 season, Schofield was relieved of his duties following Tuesday night’s defeat to Wigan Athletic at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Discussing the decision to relieve Schofield of his duties and the recruitment of a new permanent Head Coach, Leigh Bromby said:

“This isn’t a decision that has been taken lightly, but clearly the direction we chose to follow in the summer has not worked out as we had intended.

“Danny is a good man who is rightfully well thought of by all at the Club because of his contribution as both a player and coach over a long period of time, and that will not change.

“However, having given him as much time as we felt able to in order to get things right, we cannot continue to keep losing at the rate we have in the opening nine competitive fixtures this season.

“We’ve acted at this stage because we must get results back on track. I have complete confidence that the players we have form a strong Sky Bet Championship squad, and that a return of four points from our opening eight league fixtures of the season is not an accurate reflection of the ability we have available to us in the changing room.

“The process to appoint our next permanent Head Coach is already under way, and we are under no illusions as to how crucial a decision this will be – in no uncertain terms, we must get it right.

“We want a top-quality coach and a leader who will get the best from our talented squad; someone who is not only capable of making the team better as a collective and developing individuals, but who is also aligned with our Club philosophy to be brave, progressive, and not set any limitations on what is possible or can be achieved.

“In the short term we will give Narcís Pèlach, Paul Harsley, Paul Clements and the rest of our staff every support we can ahead of Saturday’s fixture at home with Cardiff City.”

Supporters will be further updated when possible.

So what he's saying is.....

We've sacked the manager without having anybody lined up ready to step in.

But the only name that fits the criteria is David Wagner.

I'd rather have Schofield back than Brucie.

It'll be Wagner, He's the one man that I'd say 99% of supporters would get straight behind, in turn this would take the heat away from Hoyle and buy the club some time to decide what direction we need to go in

Well, in the certain knowledge that this is nowt to do wi' some bloke from Derbyshire, but if I were the owner of a football club looking relegation certs from either the Championship or the Premiership the man I'd approach with some large brown envelopes full to bursting with cash is Davide Nicola.

As he's manager of Salernitana, now doing okay in Serie A, and it's nice and sunny there too, he might give me a cold Italian shoulder, but he might fancy a job outside Italy as he's taken on about eight managerial jobs there. He's still under 50. AND he's avoided relegation for three clubs - Torino, Crotone and Salernitana. Both Crotone and Salernitana were not much short of miraculous achievements. Why he'd want to come to Huddersfield I don't know, except if you showed him how close you came to the Premiership last season, he might see it as a challenge in which success would make him a real name amongst a wider audience and give him the potential to move on to a top job!

I don't know if he speaks any English. That can't be all that important as he's coming to Yorkshire ............ he said ducking the brickbats flying in his direction.

Wagner did brilliantly for you before. He's rightly popular with the fans, but would that popularity survive a trip back to Division One? And would he survive the hovering boardroom axe that might not recognise the groundwork he'd done to prepare to bring you straight back up .....?

Ian Greaves got us relegated to Division 3, but is still regarded as a legend for getting us up to Division One in the first place.

True Snoots, but does popularity with the fans provide any protection when the arse-kicking contest breaks out in the boardroom?

Depends on whether they have one leg or two to stand on surely?

Obviously not. Schoey was a very popular player, which is why I can't understand the vile abuse he was getting.

Yes we were struggling. How bad were we when Carlos took over? Quite bad actually.

But not as bad as when Warnock took over. His first six months in charge were absolutely dreadful. But he was given time and it paid off.

Schofield was given 9 games.
