If you are going down that route then you have to accept the risk that you are going to have a bad start. There was no risk of us going down IMO and he hadnt had any chance to bring in his own players.
I suspect behind the scenes there is a lot of discord, i can't see certain players in that squad being happy with playing the way Maloney asked. And until we fix that we are never going to progress as a club.
Was totally pointless hiring him.
Did you listen to Ron Gordon's bbc interview last night Jim? He was certainly animated when challenged by the bbc interviewer that many Hibs fans thought he was part of the problem. And he admitted later on that he and the Hibs board were a bit hasty, "rushed into appointing Maloney" and accepting the responsibility for taking on a venture that was too risky - ultimately got it wrong says Ron and should have taken more time before moving for Maloney. Re the fans' criticism, he quickly retorted, "If anyone thinks they can do a better job, then I'm open to offers"!!! Although emphasising that future investment will follow and nothing changes re the push to improve things for the better. Fighting talk from him and clearly rattled re the response from certain factions of critical Hibs fans. Interesting times ahead and hopefully a rethink plus a wiser move for the next Hibs manager. His end comments were fairly upbeat re the next manager:-
"We are looking for a certain style of Manager, and we are still looking to play an innovative, modern and attacking style of play.
I think we do need a Manager with some experience; who doesn't have to be an old head with loads of experience. But we need a Manager who knows how to lead and who can deliver results.
At the end of the day we need to instil a winning culture in the Club, that needs to be the mindset going forward."
Also wouldn't it be great if say, a massive John McGinn transfer materialised in the summer with a subsequent "windfall" of welcome cash "falling into our laps". We could do with a piece of good fortune like that for a change esp after some of the unlucky events of this season.
