When we sacked Ismael, we were 5th in the league and playing poorly, hard to argue with that. Under Steve Bruce, we are now 11th in the league and performing equally poorly. Does anyone believe this guy should be retained beyond the season end? if anyone does, I'd be interested to know the reasoning because I cannot see one reason for doing so

We need a new manager, we need new players, we need new owners.
A full reset is required. But we are Albion and we just don’t do these things!!

Do you know what, I believe that the players wanted to prove to themselves that they could play good football and were as good as Fulham and Bournemouth, if not better. As for the other games they are showing no confidence in the club or the manager, because why would they after those good performances want to lose against teams below them? Beats me.

And never was an announcement more welcome. Mind you he was on Sky with Jeff Stelling yesterday but was commenting on the Middlesborough game which was goalless until late on. So his contributions were thankfully very limited. Not a nice man!!!! ![]()

I was away at the weekend and didn't catch the Stoke match.
Like the Fulham game, the Bournemouth result gave us that glimmer of hope... but the truth is, we are not and were never good enough to put a run of wins together. We have to be honest and say we're an average side who played well against Fulham and Bournemouth, rather than a good side who played poorly against Bristol City, Blues and Stoke. In terms of going forward, I really don't know where we go from here... Bruce hasn't shown anything to suggest he's capable of overseeing the massive rebuild we need. He's chopped and changed with the personnel, the formations, the style. For all his tinkering, I don't think he has a clue about his best team, formation or just about anything. And while I sympathise with him for inheriting a squad with a real dearth in quality, spending months tinkering to settle on the same formation that failed his predecessor is quite mind boggling. That said, I couldn't think of a manager who would take us forward at this point. I think we need a magician rather than a manager... After years of terrible windows, our squad is bogged down with average Championship players. I'd argue that quite a few wouldn't look out of place in the league below. The only player who might be Premiership class is the goalkeeper, who is leaving on a free. We clearly have no cash under this owner and no players with any resell value. Quite worrying when you look at our squad and we would need at least 6 or 7 good additions to be promotion contenders next season IMO. This means we will be again looking to the loan and free market which served us dreadfully last summer. Not that our record spending money is much better... I really hope we don't have mandatory deals in place to sign the likes of Clarke and Molumby. I think a return to the dark days is on the cards. To be honest, if we're as dreadful in the market this summer as we were last, a relegation battle could be on our hands next season. |
