I remember some of the comments from Saints fans about the original game getting called off. "They hadn't had a frosty night in Southampton since Mick Channon was a baby" or words to that effect. "All the pipes were installed but they never connected them to the heat pumps." So why install them if you don't intend to use them?

George Brown was a favourite of my dad...........not at Huddersfield but after he moved to Aston Villa. Just looked at his goal stats.......really impressive at all clubs he played for. ( 142 in 213 games for the Terriers and 79 in 116 for the Villa)

First of all, a happy birthday to our forgotten man, Reece Brown. He was born in Dudley on this date in 1996 and so is 26 today. He is now in his third loan spell at Peterborough from Town and came on as a sub the other night against Man City in the Cup. He came on in the 71st minute and I don't think I heard his name mentioned again. He really is Mr Anonymous.
In three season as a Huddersfield Town employee, he has played one first team game, a League Cup tie at home to Lincoln. And I had to look that up because I was there but I don't remember him at all.
He won't be allowed to play against us on Friday night, but if he does turn up, this is what he looks like..........

Now then. We have played Tottenham Hotspur three times on this day. The most recent one was at Wembley Stadium in 2018, when they were using it as a temporary home. Spurs won 2-0 with Son Heung-min getting them both.
The first of the three Spurs meetings on this date was back in 1926 at Leeds Road as we were closing in on our third consecutive League title. It was the mighty Town winning this one 2-1 with George Brown getting both of ours.
The middle one of the three though, played in 1928 was a right spanking. It was the quarter finals of the FA Cup in front of 52,390 people who crammed into our wonderful old ground and we won 6-1. The only consolation for the Spurs fans on the day was that they won the second half. Yes, we were 6-0 up at half time! We were 5-0 up after 19 minutes! That man George Brown was on target again. Four he scored in this one, with Billy Smith getting the others.
And so the next one will be the semi final. It's Sheffield United at Old Trafford on March the 24th. Bring it on!

March 3rd is yet another quite popular fixture day for me.
As you say 2018 we played Spurs at Wembley, I love a trip to Wembley, such a good ground.
Now then back in 2010 we went to Bury and drew 3-3 after racing into a 3-0 lead inside 30mins thanks to Morrison and a Rhodes double. and then just as at Stevenage in midweek we pressed the self destruct button and collapsed thanks to a last minute equaliser.... and to think many had walked all the way to the match from Huddersfield to raise money for charity,
Going further back in time we had a game in 2001
Town 2 v 0 Norwich
Armstrong and Facey with the goals to elevate us up to 23rd in the League
Att 11,122
and finally all the way back to 1998 for me
Town 1 v 3 Man City
Paul Dalton tucking home a Penalty for Town on 38mins
This left Town 22nd in the League
Att 15,694

More FA Cup matches to report on, played on this date. Back in 1922, we met Millwall of the 3rd Division South at Leeds Road in the quarter finals. We were a 1st Division team and favourites to win, which we did, 3-0. Two goals from Clem Stephenson and one for Ernie Islip did the job and set us up for a semi final against Notts County. That's due on the 25th of March, to be played at Turf Moor in Burnley.

We had another quarter final match on this date, again at Leeds Road. It was in 1939 and the opponents were Blackburn Rovers, who had beaten us in the 1928 Final. Excitement was high in the town again as Cup Fever ran rife, so much so that 56,518 people turned up to watch as Town and Rovers fought out a 1-1 draw.
The replay date is set for the 9th, which is a Thursday afternoon, at Ewood Park. The Town players would have happy memories of going there. They played the semi final of the previous season's competition there and beat Sunderland 3-1.
Anyway, Billy Price scored the Town goal, his 7th of the campaign, keeping up his record of scoring in every round.

The last FA Cup game played on this date was a 3rd round match. It was in 1963 and was Town's second match of the year. It was the famous big freeze of 63, when it snowed for days on end and it was said that it was like five "beasts form the east" one after the other. Our last game of 1962 was on the 29th of December at Grimsby and we didn't play again until March the 2nd against Chelsea.
So the game on this date was on a Monday, at Old Trafford against Manchester United. It didn't start well. Albert Quixall put the Red Devils in front before our old boy Denis Law made it two after 11 minutes. Johnny Giles made it 3-0 after 20 minutes and the Lawman made it 4-0 before half time. They took their feet off the gas after the break, but Denis still managed to complete his hat trick in the 88th minute and Town were out of the Cup, beaten 5-0.

The most recent game on this day was in 2017 and brought to an end a great unbeaten run of 7 matches (6 wins and a draw), when we lost at home to Newcastle United. It was a smash and grab job done by Rafa Benitez and his men. Town won all the stats apart from goals scored, 77% possession, 16 shots compared to their 6. But it was the geordie boys who won it 3-1, with our goal coming from the penalty spot, with Aaron Mooy slotting one in. That made the score 2-1 and as we were pushing for the equaliser, Joel Coleman, who had come on at half time for Danny Ward, made a right mess of a long punt forward and that prick Dwight Gayle tucked the ball into an empty net.
Mooy would get his own back, scoring the winner against them in the Premier League next season.

We have a couple of birthdays. Harold Hassall was born on this date in 1929. He played for Town between 1948 and 52 and gained 5 England caps in his time at Leeds Road and scored 4 goals. Sadly though, his career was ended early, by a knee injury, aged just 26, by which time he had left us for Bolton Wanderers.
He died in 2015, aged 85.
And then there's Joey Jones, the legendary Welsh international full back, born on this date in 1955, making him 67 today. Joey started out his career with Wrexham, before going to Liverpool and earning fame and glory. Signed by Bob Paisley in 1975, he won the League, the European Cup twice, the UEFA Cup and the UEFA Super Cup in his time there before returning to Wrexham in 78. After 4 years there, he moved to Chelsea, had three years there and came to Huddersfield Town, one of the last signings made by Mick Buxton. He had a couple of 2nd Division seasons with us before going back for a third spell at Wrexham.

I've another couple of games attended on March 4th.]
Starting way back in 2000 when Town beat Wolverhampton 2-0 with goals goals coming from Martin Smith in front of 17,214. That result left Town 6th in Division One and still all set for the play offs under the guidance of fathead Steve Bruce
Going even further back to 1995 we have a 0-0 draw at home to Bradford Shitty in front of 17,404 our second highest crowd of the season. This draw saw Town remain top of the old Second Division and extending our unbeaten run to 9 games under Neil Warnock

Blimey, didn't realise Steve "manager" Bruce had been in charge of the Terriers as well!
I expect that ended in the usual dismissal.

We played some great football when Bruce first arrived but as per usual we sold our best striker (Marcus Stewart) and replaced him with a Cart horse (Martin Smith) and things went downhill rapidly. By the time he was given his P45 it was everybody else's fault bar Brucey's according to Bruce.

Sounds a familiar tale..........were any cabbages thrown at him like the Villa fans did?
