WBA vs Everton - Match Thread
#1
Two teams with two points apiece, still winless with three matches gone. Everton have indisputably had the tougher start, while for Albion, it's been a question of trying to make do with what was available as the new signings trickled in. But now, with all the building blocks in place, both sides will be hunting for those first three points. The new-look Albion simply have to hit the ground running.

The Good Samarasitan?

While the Premier League season is a long haul, and a couple of defeats are far from the end of the world, a bit of confidence goes a long way on the pitch, in the stands and in the technical area. Ideally, Albion should be looking to get a league win under our belt before we kick off against Burnley at the end of the month, and with White Hart Lane always a difficult destination, we have to aim for that win this Saturday. Everton are never easy opposition, but we have a decent enough record against them at home, and with the right mentality, we should be able to cause them problems. In their three matches so far, Martinez has had the Toffees attacking like Barcelona but defending like Wigan; their forward threat is bound to cause us problems, and I think trying to shut up shop will be a largely futile exercise, so hopefully we can start brightly and try to ask questions of the Everton defence. Getting the first goal could prove vital, and if we can manage it, I really don't want to see us sit back and hand the initiative to Martinez's men. Nothing good will come of it (and on that note, how wonderful that the new site has provided us with the ideal smiley for watching Albion attempt to defend a one goal lead... Sick )

It's time to put the Swansea debacle behind us and kick-start our season. Come on you Baggies.

I'm pubcrawling my way to the match any minute, stopping for a pint at every pub on the road up. (Mind you there's only 1 pub on the A30, M5, and M6). I'll be under the limit when I get to my folks' house, so I'll make up for it when I get there!

Looking forward to seeing my old East Stand neighbours.

Unfortunately, it looks like Lukaku will be fit for the match.

Lescott, Varela, Blanco, Samaras will all be in the squad for Sat - all at differing levels of fitness so no guarantee of starting #wba

Ben Foster, Graham Dorrans and Gareth McAuley should be okay for Saturday's clash v Everton. Youssouf Mulumbu to be assessed #wba

Good news Thumb up Based on that I'd love to see Gamboa, GMac, Lescott and Poco all coming into the defence, Yacob and Gardner sitting (Mulumbu in for one of them if fit) and hopefully one of Blanco/Varela/Samaras starting in place of Brunt with Sess in for Dorrans. I'll go:
Foster
Gamboa - McAuley - Lescott - Pocognoli
Mulumbu - Gardner
Berahino - Sessegnon - Blanco
Ideye

Blanco purely because he has played 90 mins for the U21's. Maybe start Anichebe if fit.

Although I expect to see the same stale Brunt/Dorrans/Dawson bore-fest Doh

This is always a fixture I look forward to and will have a little extra spice with the return of AI. I like how Everton put faith in youth and normally play the right way. It's one I normally get to however this Saturday will be at Hyde Park with crap wi-fi and dodgy signal trying to get updates. Not my Prediction League forecast but hoping for a 2-1 to kick us on

Everton been a team that we've done quite well against over the years, hopefully that continues. Definitely take a point, but we need 3 very soon

Exact same team for me too if everyone is fit enough to play with McAuley or Foster as captain.

Plenty of movement and interchanging by the front 4 to cause the Everton back line plenty of problems.

Some how don't think Mulumbu is going to be fit and I would not be at all surprised if we do not see him for some time yet.  I really hope I am wrong, but normally we hear something like "race against time" all we have heard so far with Mulumbu, is "waiting for the results of an assessment".

Does not sound promising to me Sick

Yet another good post Ska'd - don't know how you find the time. Even though I'm semi-retired I sometimes don't find time to wipe my own arse let alone do what you contribute to this and previous forums ! A big thank you for that.

After the Swansea game I was all full of doom and gloom but I don't know why but for some reason, I have now got positive vibes and reckon we will start clicking and get results.

A lot depends on AI's strategy. If we play too deep, we'll be in trouble as we all know West Brom thrive on attacking footy but, if we sit back and invite pressure, we'll see a repeat of the Sunderland/Spurs game and throw away any lead we may have. Fast flowing movement in the channels creating space for Brown Ideye and the in form Saido Berahino should be a potent force but one up front too much to get goals. As we don't know half the players, wouldn't like to predict a team but hope it's an attacking one.

Got a family wedding tomorrow so won't be there which is a bugger so Burnley is next one for me.

 Smile
