Carroll is playing 3 card brag, waiting for Burnalee or others to double or treble the offer at Reading at the foot of the Prima Donna League.
As a free agent he can pass on as many deals as he wants.
It's rare to have one over the banker or the dealer but at the moment he can just about get away with it and can easily afford it from previous contracts that won't see him down the local foodbank anytime soon (well not in the queue anyway).
He's a couple of years or more to go yet before Doncaster, Scunny, Bradford and Hartlepool might become the upper limit of his expectations.
