Next Season If

Given that Wrexham have an even longer history than us of getting every decision wrong I think we should take a careful look at their release list. We could do much worse than signing Faicre Kelleher (age 25) centre back and Theo Vassell (age 24) full or centre back.

Given also that I have no idea what we are doing with Grant Smith, who to me is a way better keeper than the flashier Montgomery, perhaps we should take note that Solihull are releasing Ryan Boot and if we can find room for a man as old as Nathan Tyson to extend his career successfully then perhaps we could take Jamie Ward too.

I reckon all of these players could contribute to getting us out of the National League next season, assuming we haven't already achieved it this season of course.

I've no idea of the length of contracts our current squad is tied into by the way, but we must be releasing several judging from our furloughing policy.

It will all boil down to budget. Will players come to us for lower wages or if we go up will we increase our player budget? James Rowe has done a great job so far bringing in players but they haven't all worked out for whatever reason. Close season will be interesting.

I think players around and below our current level will come for James Rowe (if we can keep him!). Of course the money matters, but the ones still interested in building their careers, who want to go higher will stir that into the equation. If you want to get noticed, being top of the league helps. How big a squad we can have is a mystery, who'd have thought we'd have the current squad?

If you ditch your manager like Wrexham, then the release list is likely to be a bit dodgy. I remember Kelleher and Vassell both making Team of the Week it seemed more than once in the Non-league Paper and Boot came out top keeper in the National not last season but the one before it. And they are free .......

Rumour that Nigel Clough might be Wrexham bound. He did nothing at Mansfield but then again his dad Brian would have failed there.
