Chesterfield score line only because I'm haunted by possibly a false memory of us beating Stockport 4-0 when I was young. All 4 goals were scored by a full back called Poole - Ivan I think - who was converted to centre forward for the game because we had no-one else. He was the brother of Terry Poole who was a good goalkeeper for Huddersfield. Another brother also played for my dad's team in the Hope Valley, but couldn't get a game every week, because the team was so good, That might even have been Ivan. I'm certainly a name short here. The brothers were from Calow! Whether 4-0 even happened and a fullback scored them all from centre forward ...... who knows?
Where did all the Covid come from up there? The other week you were about the same level as us down here. Now you are all imprisoned for life and we are on 38 per 100,000. I notice Mansfield isn't locked down. One, they can't afford locks. Two, the government couldn't think of any way to make life worse there. Three, they'd probably just form their own union and go straight back to work anyway .....

Terry Poole was brilliant. Keeper for us when we made it to the first division in 1970. And iirc he was from Chesterfield.
As for the covids, I don't know but my niece has gone and brought it back from university in deepest darkest Lancashire.

And my answer was ROY POOLE who was a left back.
He did score all four for Chesterfleld in 1961-2 but against Colchester. I had my ninth birthday in June 1961, so my memory wasn't fully reliable. We did beat Stockport 4-0 in the FA Cup in 1962-3.
My dad's team's full back must therefore have been Ivan Poole, who certainly was Terry Poole's brother, but I'm not now sure about Roy Poole, because he was apparently born in Sheffield.
Jim Lovie also played when Poole scored 4 and I played against Jim years later. He became a bookie. When we beat his team he said he thought Chesterfield should have signed me instead of Phil Tingay. Can't be right all the time Jim. Gerry Clarke played in that Colchester game too. I played cricket against him. After that historical research I now feel really old, but then I did shake hands with Sam Hardy ...... who ...... my dad told me he was the greatest goalie who ever lived!
