Gary Caldwell - the man in need of fewer ideas?
#1
Partick Thistle's players have been asked to choose the starting XI for their Scottish Championship relegation decider against Queen of the South.

Assistant manager Brian Kerr made the request in the team's WhatsApp group on Monday - asking for teams "on a piece of paper in a blank envelope".

The Firhill side need to avoid defeat in Dumfries on Saturday to secure their place in the second tier for next term.

Manager Gary Caldwell said the squad were "brilliant with it".

He explained to the Daily Record that "in pressure situations, you know who's going to be there by your side" and that "it's given us a little insight into what the players are thinking".

I wonder if they all left themselves out ..............

It is very interesting how the players will react. Will they make a serious selection? And what does Caldwell do? The team selected might disappoint almost everyone, so what does that do for morale? And if they go 1-0 down will they all be wondering about envelopes instead of how to score a goal?

Whenever Caldwell comes up with an idea I can't help thinking about Sam Hird holding up his hands mid-game and asking the bench what the f*** was supposed to be going on.

Then there was the genius logic of being employed to win an urgent relegation battle & he switches the team to play three at the back and then informs everyone that it is very difficult system to learn. Ideal then, with relegation staring you in the face?

Maybe GC was just lucky. Partick were only playing Queen of the South and their next game was in the play-off against Montrose from the division below and they went down 2-1 in the first leg.

On paper Partick have one of the strongest squads at their level ........ but we all know about on paper.
