I knew it was only a matter of living long enough and I would agree with Ashley Carson on something and it has happened. He has cast Chesterfield's vote for the National League's season to end.

I don't see any other solution. Contracts would have ended or been coming to an end when any possible playing re-start was possible. In National North and South and for some clubs at our high level fielding a team would have been a problem.

What this means for a club like Barrow or King's Lynn I don't know. The Chorleys too?

Certainly what it ought to mean is that we assure John Pemberton of his position and have him working from home to rustle up some of the uncommitted, free talent available around us and below for a new season.

Or am I wrong? Should everyone be sitting at home colouring in Robbie Weir?

Why not just simply take the placings as they stand? If theres only 1 club coming down - Stevenage by a mile then just promote 1 club - Barrow. Bottom 4 to go down.
The only team that could object would probably be Fylde as they could technically avoid the drop if they won their games in hand.
If any FL clubs go bust in the interim then hold a mini knock out tournament before the start of next season (if it starts) to determine who replaces them.
The only other way is just void it completely. That would be very unfair on Barrow.

The EFL are short one club anyway after Bury. If the EFL wanted then Barrow could go up, but that would mean the National League would have 23 teams unless someone worked out a play off between Nat North and South to fill that place.

If the EFL were to promote four from Div 2 to Div 1 and relegate just three then that would just be the start of the moving the absence of Bury down the pyramid. It would seem sensible to fill up the EFL, let our League run for a season a team short with only three to be relegated and complete the whole sad re-shuffle on a full season (hopefully at the end of next season).

The only bit of Barrow's case for promotion which falls flat to me is Evo's argument that the whole town will be devastated if they are denied promotion. As they struggle to get more than 2,000 through the gates it seems to me only extreme tunnel vision could lead anyone to conclude that this would amount to devastation.
