Update from the Bean Bag
#1
"Haydn Hollis became the Spireites’ first signing of what could potentially be a busy summer after a dozen of the squad departed the Proact at the end of last season.

Chief executive officer Graham Bean spoke to Spireites Digital about Chesterfield’s search for new players and began by stating that manager John Sheridan has identified potential transfer targets.

“John is very much his own man and he knows exactly who he wants,” he said.

“We do have targets. We will work towards getting the players that he actually wants, as opposed to listening to agents who are throwing a whole host of names at us.

“You have to let the manager identify the players that he wants to build the team in the way that he wants.

“Once he has identified the players, it comes to our side of the table and we’ll look at putting the deals together that will entice the player to come to the club.”

Hollis penned a one-year deal which was announced on Friday, after spending last campaign on loan with the Spireites.

Bean explained that he is confident of an increase in transfer activity over the next month or so, by explaining: “I’m expecting that over the next three or four weeks it will start to get really busy.

“The players are due back at the end of June and by that time I would think that John will have a number of players in.

“I’m sure they’ll be one or two who will be coming in right up to the start of the season.”
"

Now this worries me - even our club has noticed the disquiet that not only does nothing seem to be happening, but also that stuff is happening elsewhere. In the good old days you wouldn't have expected much to happen until May was out, but now the close season, like summer in Scotland according to Billy Connolly, is June. That's one month for Sheri to put down his glass and pick up his glasses.

If Sheri really has plans and targets why didn't HE say so himself? As Dancing says we DO currently look threadbare, but we would look less so IF Sheri were planning to introduce our own youngsters like Amantchi, Rawson, Sharman and Wakefield into the mix for starting berths in our line-up. Unfortunately I imagine we are all guessing that one at most of those names has a realistic chance of starting games for us. And that means we have plenty of spaces on the team sheet.

If ST sales are down then the player budget will do the same. My guess is that it will be a waiting game with a limited number of signings next month then see how ST sales go before the end of the early bird date. I haven't renewed mine and honestly dont know if I will. If others are in the same mind as me I can see a big drop.
I think we will see a lot of loanees next year which I dont believe is the way to go. If JS was going to blood our youngsters, he had the ideal opportunity towards the end of last season but played players who he knew would be going?
I gave up years ago trying to follow JS's logic, it looks like its going to be a few more before i get it.
As Tommy Cooper used to say - "Bottle glass, glass bottle Ha Ha".

I can only agree Dancing. Once we were safe you'd have thought that would have been an opportunity to bring back Amantchi all the way from Mickleover and play him, similar for Sharman and maybe Wakefield. Rawson was at least taking part in a promotion battle for Sheffield FC ........... And yes we did choose to play men Sheri must have known he was about to ditch. I can't see any advantage in it.

Yes I too fear a plague of loanees. We could leap in with an offer for Callum Burton and begin the process of building a rock-like defence ..... we could .......... but yes we will probably wait for season ticket sales and season ticket sales will wait for transfer activity. Eastleigh did well last season, but about nine of their players are yet to agree contracts. We won't get McCallum up front, but we might get Josh Hare for the defence if we tried. IF.

The thing is the clubs in London and within easy reach of it have an advantage at this level. Good transport links bring a host of clubs in range for players seeking a club, and moving from one club to another isn't a wrench. And the large number of EFL and Premier League clubs in the area are a ready local source of an army of almost-made-its who become the salmon John-West rejects. In that sort of environment, if you haven't been blessed with a big budget and you need to convince players to move a hundred fifty miles plus, moving fast and looking keen tends to beat sitting in the pub and hoping your nice ground will attract new blood.

See Pemberton has gone. Bit of a surprise. Is this as I suspect the end of our academy?

I had thought two of the best players in the National League would be snapped up for League 1 or 2 ....... but no! Whilst Sheri is relaxing on the lawn with a few cans ........... and our financial wizards are counting how much we save by not signing new players on until a few days before the new season kicks off ........ McCallum of Eastleigh, second in the goal charts last season, is snapped up by super-power Solihull Moors and Kosylo of Halifax who has had Championship clubs coming to watch has signed for AFC Fylde.

Anybody backing us to win this league needs to self-refer to the Priory for a nine month stay.

There's no chance we will win the league next season plus I cant afford the Priory for 9 months, its just so much cheaper to carry on drinking and being a pessimist.
As Burtons in town is long gone, i will move upmarket and say if Chesterfield win the league next season I will show my arse in Primarks window.

Is anybody else having the same trouble as me with this board. More often than not its not available for some obscure reason then today it wont even let me sign in and stay in.

If anybody with a lightbulb that still works is reading this, If the board problems are down to funding, why not crowd fund it or make it subscription. Don't know how many members it has but I for one would be happy to put my hand in my pocket to fund it. It cant cost that much, then we can cut the adverts etc and get the think running properly. Most folk on here have become friends over the years and it would be a shame to just loose it.
What does everybody else think?
