Chesterfield have today parted company with manager Martin Allen following yesterday’s 4-0 defeat at home to Solihull Moors, which saw the Spireites drop into the National League relegation zone following just four wins from 25 games.
Assistant-manager Adrian Whitbread and head of recruitment/goalkeeper coach Carl Muggleton have also left the club.
CEO Graham Bean said: “On behalf of the club, I would like to thank Martin and his staff for their hard work and wish them all the very best for the future. The search for a new manager is now underway."
Academy manager John Pemberton will take charge of the team for Saturday’s game at home to Hartlepool United.

Good news or bad? I always liked him, but can't argue with your league position.

I wish it would work out for him somewhere.

It has worked out at Barnet for him at least twice ....... but he's left them more often than that.
Our situation had painted him into a corner and all he was doing was adding another coat. If I were him I would have walked.
Martin Allen made himself rather than the team the focus of attention. He recruited poorly. I think his trusted lieutenants were friends and yes men, when he needed wisdom and honesty. And he was not allowed sufficient resources to put right his errors, but then he did not seem to be showing much aptitude for picking up the talent cheaply available.
I don't know how a club in such dire straits could afford to get rid of him ...... and I don't know how we could possibly keep him either.
Our Academy Manager John Pemberton looks like a manager and I used to read fans on Bob's calling for him to take over, but our juniors are often losing too ...........
Now we KNOW why Mr Bean was appointed, to take on the Michael Heseltine / Michael Gove role and wield the knife. Ashley Carson reverts to eminence grise and Dave Allen hides out in Apperknowle. The club continues to founder.
Will we improve? It is hard to do worse than 0-4 against Solihull Moors, a result that showed we'd struggle in the National League North.
I'm sorry for Martin Allen because he meant well, but only radical change will do now ....... I do, however, doubt the stock response of sacking the manager and his mates represents radical change when the Carson/Allen axis is undamaged. I also doubt the timing when Hartlepool are on a downer themselves and might easily have been encouraged simply to turn up and present us with three points.
Allen, Muggleton and Whitbread, three kings of Orient weren't. Oh dear, sometimes when you are in a hole it is best just to stop digging. If only we'd left Danny Wilson alone and given him a bit of cash to spend. If only we'd got something on paper guaranteeing us David Brooks last season. If only Gary Caldwell had never learnt Powerpoint.
Who on earth would want us now? Hello York and Stockport, here we come if we even continue to exist.

I always liked him as well, Snoots, although to be fair the writing was well and truly on the wall, writ large and loud, after Tuesday and, like you say, the league table don`t lie. Give me a crystal ball or three and I`ll tell you whether it`s good news or bad.
I hope it works out for him somewhere as well, Amelia, but I`m not sure. I reckon that both his reputation and his self-belief have taken a hammering this last few months and I`m not sure whether the will is there any more. I`ve a feeling he may decide to call it quits now.

Like I said in the other post he sounded a broken man in his interview after the match.
I hope he does succeed somewhere else, he's a character and unfortunately there aren't that many left in football.
For me I think its the wrong decision at the wrong time. He had his hands tied behind his back with injuries and at least he was giving the young ones a chance. Though after yesterdays mauling by Solihull and the crowd it will have put them back years.
Wonder how much the season tickets will drop by next year.
SGB, you might even get a local game to go to.

No, Dancing, not even then.
Nuneaton would definitely be local, but they look almost certain to drop again. Other than that, the nearest would be Leamington; that`s no nearer than Solihull.
Life`s a bugger, innit.

Now call me a cynic (many have), but is this entirely coincidental? I wonder.

And Graham Still has apparently just resigned as Barnet manager. Hmmm........
Is anybody else thinking what I`m thinking?
