Not pretty but we shaded it. Carter is a real find best player on the park by a mile. Barry had rings run round him by their No 11 who was very pacey. Their No 9 was a dirty bastard end of and was lucky to stay on the pitch.
I know this is a stupid thing to say but we defended well. OK I've said it, we looked solid and saw the game out. God knows the last time we managed to do that.
About 5-600 spireites saw us get 3 points Dev, 2 home games now and we should be smiling come this time next week. Come on now lets all believe.
MA came out and applauded the fans before and after the game. The team gave their all in the conditions and were knackered at the end but my god the beer tastes sweet tonight.
Take care.

Decent start against a side who do not lose many at home

The one thing I took from the Wigan game ,it is the only game Ive seen ,was the tenacity to stop them from getting past us and I think that's going to be the main focus under MA this season ,no matter how well we play we are always going to be difficult to beat and that will definitely stand us in good stead .

Last season Ebbsfleet were unlucky to lose out to Tranmere in the play-offs. It looks as though they might have improved their team (on paper at least and on the pitch by the sound of Berry's travails). That makes it a good win. It also sounds as though we defended well rather than desperately to keep the clean sheet, which is also encouraging. MA was v. dissatisfied first half, which is also good. Sounds as though he'll improve us!
I'd wondered about not-using a sub keeper with only five on the bench and MA did it! Has anyone ever seen any figures on how often a sub keeper is actually used. It tends to be pretty rare, because you are just brought up not to go off, because at lower levels you ARE the only decent keeper on the books ...... so it normally has to be quite an injury to take the keeper off the field. But if your replacement keeper is as poor as Joe Anyon, maybe rolling the dice is a better option.
We'll now see how Aldershot travel on Tuesday night. They're obviously organised and capable from their Barnet performance and will be another difficult test for MA's side. Saturday will be interesting, because Braintree will be a different kind of opponent. Even if they lose again on Tuesday they won't come under pressure like us, they'll chirrup that they're just a pub team from Essex and take what comes. And it's precisely that attitude that got them up. Dartford and a few others would have rated themselves above Braintree but ........... and they'll be relying on that but to keep them up this season.
Well done Dancing for going. As for Ebbsfleet, now they know the result I bet their manager is wishing he pushed Cheek in up front with Kedwell.

Apparently Nelson can go in the nets if necessary in an emergency ,maybe he might be a better option than Laid Back Joe.
I was surprised to see JBW not involved ,not because I think he should be but because he figured prominently in pre-season .The fact there was no place for JBW, Rowley, Sinnott suggests we have a decent enough squad size .

Yesterday wasn't Rowleys type of game and I think the team was picked to do exactly what it did ie grind out a result. Heard at the game that JBW may be injured but who knows? Sinnott was below average at Alfreton he looked off the pace and just didn't want it. I thought he was off somewhere else last week?
Why bother with Anyon on the bench at all? In the warm up with shooting practice yesterday he just couldn't be bothered and looked totally disinterested, didn't go for anything that was fired straight at him. We would fare better with 11 outfield players and no keeper.

Looks like Rowley may be going out on loan Blue. What do you think?

Non-league paper is pretty damned good, but there is a huge error this week. Look at the Southern section of the division below us ........ the League Table is all wrong. I reckon they do it on a spreadsheet type basis and re-ordered it and carried across scrambled info' maybe ........ Nice little piece on the Marsh-Browns at Whitehawk - me I'd be for signing Ky and Kwai!
Good news that Morgan Ferrier went from Boreham Wood to Walsall - that will definitely weaken them.
It has to be an embarrassment for Joe Anyon, that MA rates an outfield player a better bet than him in goal.
Like Dancing I think MA picked his squad to win THAT way. I wonder what he'll go for against Aldershot. It sounds as though they rather defended at home to Barnet, so will he try to out-do them at their own game, or will he push on maybe start three forwards like Hines, Fortune and Lee Shaw to give Aldershot a bit too much to think about ........?
Must say it is nice to be thinking what tactics we might be using and how they might work, rather than trying to fit a few disastrous looking players into an imaginative pattern that might not get slaughtered. Even if Aldershot do us 0-1 on Tuesday I still think I'll be looking at what MA is trying to do ...... rather than what's happening to us (as if we were just a punchbag). That's a good thing.
My man Gold Omotayo got on for the last 12 minutes for Bury, scored the winner with a header!
As for Rowley, he needs games, but it is difficult to see where you loan him to and why. He's been playing against men, we don't want to loan him to a Vandy rival, a Division 2 side might take him, but that would make us look silly and they'll probably stick him on the bench anyway. But what would he learn by going lower when he has already played higher? It's game time but to what end? Difficult one.
Personally I was amazed by Wedgbury being on the bench. We don't even seem to have been playing him in his best role, just in front of the back four in friendlies. Or was it just an MA plan to keep him fresh because he knows Talbot can't play two matches close together ........... maybe?

Rowley didn't really progress last season after his injury despite being given plenty of games and if MA thinks a loan move will help him pick up his progression then I'm happy with that decision .We have to remember he is still only a teenager and a spell at somewhere like Alfreton may do him good.
Looking at the ticket sales for tomorrow it looks similar to last season and I can well see a crowd of 5k which is incredible really .
