Whilst I agree that Westwood has saved us being in the bottom three, he will be going in 18 months time anyway. The choice is do we get £4m or do we let him go for free. We might be smart & sell him in January but get a loan back deal until the end of the season. It is pretty much proven that the teams with the biggest wage bills are the most successful and the only way we can increase our wage bill is by getting big profits on our players by selling them well before their contracts expire.
If we don't sell him then two years from now we have no Westwood & no £4m & are going backwards.

Make the most of the next 18 mo. Instead of saying he'll be gone then anyway (negative thinking) say we have him for 18 mo (positive approach) and build on strengths not as SCO says, sell our strength, hoping to pick up bargains. The latter will turn out inevitably to be mediocre bench players.

Pei, I never said pick up bargains!! Selling a player for 4m would allow us to pay 4 players 20k a week, that would enable us to get 4 good championship players, the type of players we lose by not paying these wages!! As for their quality, thats in the hands of MM, PA and SG, if we trust them to do a job then great, if not then thats another conversation!!

My fear would be selling Westwood for £4M with £3M to Milans pension pot and £1M on player wages.

Yes, that is the concern. A lot willbe decided in December, if we win a couple more games and are still in touch with the top 6 come new year then a different mindset will be there than if we are not in touch.

SCO in my opinion Dawson is the best young keeper we have had since big Kev!
I don't rate Kirkland at all!

I think Dawson will be number two next season & possibly number one the season after so we just need cover for next season. A season long loan could fill that gap as Kirkland will leave in the summer. £4m could strengthen the rest of the team enough to put us into the promotion race.

Agreed, seen a few snippets of Cameron Dawson, looks like a good young keeper. He's still England U19 or 20 isn't he?
