World Cup Tables (Round 4 scores)
#1

Group stages completed and we now know our “top 8” just like the real competition.

In Group 1 which returned the highest average of the 4 groups going through to the knock out stages we see Stairs leading the way breaking clear in the final round of games scoring an impressive 17 points averaging 2 points a game with 5 CS including the Gamball.

St Charles carried over enough of an advantage from the last round to finish 2nd to stave off any challenge from the group’s other two predictors to keep his hopes of world Cup glory alive into the quarter finals and beyond.
Salop was unable to mount a late challenge and had to settle for 3rd with a very creditable score of 60 which would have seen him qualify in another of our groups.

Our seed in Group 1 bit the dust along with two of the others from two of the other three groups as DD finished 4th but again scoring higher than another of our actual qualifiers.

A tough, tight Group that produced some high scores and excellent predicting, though ultimately its Stairs and SCO who will represent Group 1 in the final stages.

So Zinman led the table going into the final week and did his best to throw it all away!!

Joker came top this week mainly due to a spot on Gamball but after his dreadful last round he wasn't able to turn it around enough and Zinman pipped it him to retain 2nd spot by just 2 points.

In the end Vicar won the group with another solid score, coming in second with 11 points after scoring a maximum on England's game and on his Scoreball game. He still won despite a 12-0 prediction in the Spain loss and an 8-1 Belgium win prediction!!

In a distant 4th in the final table came Matt, followed in last place by 4Eva.

Bomber will confirm the final results but from Group 2 it appears that Vicar and Zinman progress to the next round. One final note, Zinman didn't play his Gamball again, but of course again got the prediction wrong anyway!!

Cheers
SCO

So the qualification round is over with a dramatic twist similar to the England game. OK, maybe not.

Beefy finally found some form and headed the round 3 table - pity nobody told him it was a sprint not a marathon as it wasn't quite enough to force himself inside the top 2 (another image to try to forget).

BBB came in second and it was just enough to give him top place in the group, just pipping Derby.

Quantum's challenge for qualification fizzled out but at least he can take heart from a maximum return from his score ball - I guess he'll be pressing for this to continue into next season.

Beefy at least avoids the wooden spoon as a result of Worldclass having to catch an early flight home.

Zin

So the group stages finish and finish with a flourish as Twerton tops the group with a nailed on Gamball, Twerton scores 18.

Baggie one had a decent return in 2nd with thirteen points, I have no Idea who has come runner up in this group but I think Bombers return of 12 points should see him safely through as the winner showing his supreme prediction skills remain as the best there is. Well done bomber, I bow to your superior efforts that have seen you make up the 3 members of the committee to qualify for the final stages from the 4 of us. I'm man enough to admit that I just wasn't up to the standard that was required.

Snoots and Amelia I feel have not done enough, both finished equal 4th with a poor return of just 3 points.

Good luck to all the qualifiers and enjoy yourself, The eventual winner will need to send me a Postal order of £100 in return you get MY WORLD CUP, if you dont sorry I remain reigning Champion until the funds are sent to me,
I will PM you my address and await your response Laugh

Beefy Thumb up

Thanks to all the scorers and organisers .... I came a commendable ........ well bottom actually ...... what a world cup .... no rhyme or reason to the natch scores or results, us perfectionists can not be expected to perform in these circumstances, I request VAR, a recount, a rerun ..... it's a fix ...... I would've won it if it wasn't for those pesky kids ( rushkies).

Thanks for a great tournament and a bit of fun to boot ....... good luck to the eight remaining players ......

One last prediction playing my gamball ....... one of you eight will win it.

Cheers 4eva - kind words indeed - but have you seen Beefy's Group 4 write up, I think his account has been hacked - he's actually complimented me rather than mocking me. What a bloke, such a shame he missed out on the "top" 8 but at least he's been humble about it Thumb up

Dear Beefy,

Please take the advice of these Rudyard Kipling words

If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same

Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!
