Unfortunately Allen, whose interview I liked a lot, seems to be signing players we heard of years ago, who we are surprised to find are still alive.

I wish we would sign someone I hadn't heard of.

We seem to be signing very old players and people are getting excited. They may turn out to be what we need but I'm going to wait until I actually see them play before shooting my load .Id would like to see us sign someone of real quality for this level to really show a sign of intent .

If there is any chance of Pooch shooting his load I think there should be heavy stewarding and a crowd-safety warning.

At this level Wedgbury IS a quality signing. I don't think his individual play will excite anyone but he is the kind of player we have lacked for the last two seasons. He will get us the ball! I wish we could get Brundle from Dover too which would provide a real anchor for any midfield skills we can import and a wall in front of our defence.

One interesting player I was reading about yesterday, who I'd barely heard of, was Alex Brown. He's a defender with Sheffield FC who Paul Fairclough drafted into the England C team when James Jones of Chester dropped out. Young Jones is a player I've been on about all season himself, but Alex Brown, a student at Sheffield Hallam, might be worth a cheap swoop too.

(I've been noticing that one or two of the non-leaguers who I said were recognised throughout this level as potential EFL players are already on the move. Kellerman from Aldershot has gone up to Scotland, Sam Barratt has signed for Southend, and Louis Dennis has left Bromley for Portsmouth. And Lincoln didn't waste any time grabbing Bruno Andrade from Boreham Wood.) I can't see Okenabirhie staying at Dagenham now John Still has gone ....... and as Martin Allen apparently wants to add pace to his team I'd recommend Ky Marsh-Brown of Whitehawk as a player who can shift a bit.

Will Evans is another unexciting signing. Apparently a good defender in a decent defence at Aldershot. A defender in the middle of his career who Allen clearly knows ........ and Aldershot were a play-off team.

The thing is we have to have some of these lads who know the Vanarama and will perform at that level. "Better" players might not. My only question would be if we did get promoted how would Evans cope a step higher - but it isn't a chance he's really had - so he's decent bet. I was hoping we'd sign a young defender like James Jones from Chester, who in view of his age should improve as we hopefully improve too ...........

My knowledge of non-league has multiplied in the last couple of years - but all non-league fans would have known about the players I've been talking about Pooch. Bruno Andrade would to a non-league fan of a team lower in the pyramid be the equivalent of an Alexis Sanchez.

To be honest Evans seems mostly to be a 6 or 7 out of 10 player. Kellerman was the one I would have grabbed from Aldershot on the basis of reports and reactions. A slight worry is that after Aldershot defeats their manager Gary Waddock seems to harp on about mistakes costing them dear - he doesn't specify a culprit but that sort of thing never looks great for a centre back does it?
