We are supposed to be fighting for our lives and we couldn't even field a full bench. Ricky German was taking a gander at Riber Castle; most of the rest of the squad were mysteriously developing inexplicable injuries. George Smith is still hiding in the lavvy. Maguire as usual has shouldered responsibility for our losing run and is going to spend the rest of the season seated (unless a loanee actually dies). Louis Dodds has decided to do his best to help Port Vale stay up. Happily we were again able to produce a bench with almost zero potential for goals, to perfectly match the attacking potential on the pitch once O'Grady's name appears near the team sheet.

According to the stats we had seven efforts at goal and zero on target. Our one shot on target went in but having been ruled out for offside didn't even count as a shot.

Is there some sort of rotten tomatoes competition for the worst ever January Transfer Window? If so we must be heading the nominations. Most of our recruits appear to be struggling with the mirror test.

Come on Jack, there's only so far an extensive vocabulary and a neat turn of phrase will take you. Give us something to make us believe you might get us back up next season.

At 1-0 down I'd have swapped that entire bench for just Ricky German, or even better if we'd signed him for free, Jacob Hazel. Oh he only grabbed another two for Frickley, what's that 34 so far and it's mid Feb? Amantchi or Rawson would have been a better bet. What is the point of a bench that can't do anything to change a game?

They had 14 shots ,7 on target, we had 7 shots ,0 on target. Yet Jack says there was nothing in the game .Very worrying.
We now have an injury list amounting to 11 ,6 of which were signed in January .
Is this just bad luck or bad judgement ?

I hate trite phrases that people pass off as having used their own brain, but you make you own luck springs to mind.

O'Grady does seem like a positive for the opposition. Our shot count and goal count go down if you even say his name out loud.

Jack says all the professional things a manager is supposed to say. and they could almost be plausible ......... BUT BUT BUT

I just think professionalism trains in a limited range of responses. With our squad Jack doesn't have that many options anyway. He can't afford to rule out anything. He may be the world's biggest believer in BMI, but at this moment I'd say Ricky German's Body Mass Index is as irrelevant as Ade Akinfenwa's. At this point any amateur team would be starting him, because the guy in charge would be tearing out his remaining hair and trying anything. That same guy would have been looking at Jacob Hazel's goals and thinking, how big a gamble would he really be; he does have the huge advantage of being fit every week, but we've missed that boat again

As Jack brought on JBW at left back yesterday, he clearly thinks he is a left back. SO PLAY HIM THERE JACK and stop finding new places to fit Weir into the team. Maguire has spent two years being demoralised by Chesterfield. Don't add to it. Keep playing him and get a player for next season at the worst. Similarly Ricky - since he got 11 goals in 3 weeks, we seem to have embarked on a deliberate campaign to destroy him - he's had enough punishments and knocks and he's hardly played a game. There is no worse score available in football than 0.
