Scottish Cup 4th round: Hearts v Hibs, Sun 21 Jan, KO 2.05pm
#1
Almost a week to go and Hibs allocation of away tickets for the Roseburn Stand sold out. Hibs mini winter break in the Algarve will  be over and its 'down to business' and extending our unbeaten run against Hertz to a magical 10-in-a-row!! Thumb up  I've no doubt they will be desperate to win this match and still have some interest in a Scottish Cup tourney that they have no chance of winning anyway! We have a reasonable chance with our player resources and I think Lenny should motivate the Hibs players by referring to that farcical ignored Ollie Shaw goal/match winner that robbed us of a deserved tactical win over Hertz in the previous Derby at the PBS. I'll be curious to see what Lenny's starting line up will be and I suspect he will use similar tactics to tackle Hearts on a pitch that is not conducive to playing decent footie. They have lost Walker, 'laughing boy' suspended, and definitely not as good as Potter thinks they are! I'm wondering if Lenny will pitch Maclaren into this match from the start as I gather that he looks 'razor sharp' and is already impressive on the training pitch - a curious predicament: Shaw or Maclaren from the start or drop Stokesy and start the two of them!?
Here's hoping we get the victory that makes up for that last refereeing farce at the PBS. On the same subject, I wonder who the assigned ref will be this time and if this one will avoid being 'slaughtered' by Chris Sutton or Mikey Stewart!!

Oh how I laughed when Harry Potter became their manager and one of jambos i drink with said it was a great appointment. Laugh

They are absolutely turgid. Our biggest problem will be the playing surface.

In past seasons the winter break has worked very much against us when we had a reasonable level of consistency going only to miss 3 or 4 games and lose it. Sunday will be tough but I`m confident we can win.

Good point wattie. Note also stokes and swanson in bother with the manager after breaking curfew on the clubs sunshine break.

I'm not a great fan of these breaks abroad during the winter,we tend to lose our focus a bit.

Can't be doing with these breaks as the players treat them as a bit of a holiday. From the warm Spanish sunshine straight to a bitterly cold winter's day in Edinburgh - complete lack of preparation in my opinion, and we all know that proper preparation prevents piss-poor performance!

I tend to agree with that view but I'd also rely on the role of Hibs sports science people who will be involved in making sure that the players 'acclimatise' properly in the remaining 7 days before the match at the PBS. Remember that Hibs are not arriving at the PBS from the Algarve a day before this game. Also they are not the only Scot footie club on a 'winter break' abroad and we'll see who plays well and who plays badly. One could argue that a positive 'feel good factor' could prevail and surely that was one of the main intentions of arranging this venture and ultimately 'recharging the batteries'.

It looks like Potter has taken on Steven Naismith in a loan move from Norwich City. This is the same guy who publicly stated he wanted to go to Rangers eh and, as mentioned in my OP, it reflects the desperate side of Hertz and Potter! Also where are they getting the money from to finance a deal on a player who is earning £10k pw and never 'kicked a baw' in a serious match for quite a while? However, Alan Stubbs' comment today was that 'he is a good signing' but he is referring to a player who is many years older than the time that Stubbsy coached him. He could be a threat and I'm sure Potter will desperately field him in the hope that he has a 'successful debut'. I'm expecting Lenny to be well up on Potter's desperate tactics and, like him, I wanna win this match outright on their own shity little pitch and GIRU Potter and Hertz limited aspirations for this season!!

The point I was trying to male had nothing to do with a break in the sunshine but more to do with the team losing its momentum during the winter break. I appreciate that other clubs have this break also and for some reason it has a bigger effect on our team than most of the others. ritchiebaby makes a very good point that players tend to treat the sunshine break as a holiday and that may have a bearing on their attitude but your "feel good factor" may be decisive on Sunday. A scrappy 1-0 win will do just fine.

I'll take a 0-1 win at the PBS 1wattie but would luv to see a 0-3 or 0-4 'demolition job' on Potter and whatever team he wishes to field against us - just being greedy all the same lol!
