Chelsea played anti football. Go three up and then get ten men behind the ball.

we were too pedestrian tonight. let the game just pass us by, very little endeavor, didnt try to go for them and open the wound from saturday, didnt try to use the momentum that we built up from the brighton game. sort of growled and backed off rather than bark and bite them so to speak

have we ever had anyone as negative as tommy smith, he seems scared off going forward now, hadhergonads shows much more attacking intent when he plays.

is mounie better than lolo, no, mounie is a good striker when the situation allows, he wont harrass and force an opening, unlike lolo, mounie is probably someone to play against teams whos defenders wont just toy with him. in fact on thinking on it, lolo is probably the one to play most if not all games

Don't know why you're saying that about Smith. He was making forrard runs all the time, especially in t first half. Chelsea had declared by the time Flo came on.

I agree with your assessment of the two strikers though, jjamez. The Chelsea defenders toyed with him, to the point that he just gave up. Depoitre shudda been on at half time. Although seeing as Hogg had gone off with a migraine, maybe ten minutes in.
What the chuff has happened to Molly Malone though? Has anybody heard owt?

Smith looks to go forward without the ball but just turns back. He's afraid, he needs it to be perfect for him to do owt he doesnt bomb past like he did last year. Last year he was more like alonso or moses.

Chelsea are the best team to visit Town this season, infact they are the best team I've seen all season.
We couldn't get near them in the first half, played 3 at the back with 2 wing backs and time and again they would move the ball from one side of the pitch to the other and have us chasing shadows. Left back for them Alonso? Outstanding footballer...superb movement, touch and crossing.

Willian, world class...stepped up another gear every time we tried to get near him

It was a rubbish game from our point of view.
Lossl to blame for the first goal....although the blame should go to the insistency to always try to play the ball out from the back. Same thing happened v Spurs.
Smith looked alright and made a few good runs forward. Defended well.
Zanka and Schindler looked a little too exposed.
Lowe was ok apart from conceding the 2nd goal. Hadyergonads looked bright when he came on.
Mooy poor. Doesn't really tick when better opposition players are around him.
Williams looked poor also.
Hogg broke up some of the play quite well.....but was sloppy on the ball.
Kachunga played well when he was tracking back. Looked ok on the ball.
Ince worked his socks off. Probably our best player on the night.
Mounie couldn't really get into the game.
Depoitre looked a beast again when he came on. Should have come on earlier. Great goal.

Overall disappointed we didn't give it more of a go. If we had shown the same fight in the 1st half as we showed in the 2nd it could have been different.

Both full backs were abysmal last night - we might as well have started without them they were that ineffective both defensively and offensively. It's a close one between Lowe and Malone but for me Flo needs a run at right back as Smith unfortunately isn't good enough at this level.

Chelsea were superb, for me the second best team I've seen this season after Spurs who were just as effective but better to watch, and I think we actually turned up against Spurs where we were very pedestrian last night. They play percentages brilliantly, every time we got the ball their shape was unreal and they allowed us no space whatsoever. Hazard was brilliant - fancy flicks but not just for the sake of it, 3 or 4 times he was a few seconds in front of his teammates with his thinking otherwise it could have been a bigger scoreline. Both their wing backs also very impressive although as already stated our full backs made it so easy for them.

We tried to play football against Spurs and we were stuffed inside 20 minutes, we've tried to play defensively against the rest of the top 6 so we don't get stuffed again. We beat one of them because they thought they only had to turn up to win, we kept one of them (you know, the unbeaten ones) at bay after scoring first and holding them to a draw until the last 5 minutes. We couldn't pass wind at Liverpool but held out until early in the first half. We almost looked like getting something at Arsenal until they scored 3 in 5 minutes in the second half and we never had a sniff against Chelski until they took their foot off our throats in the second half. A common thread in these games was conceding soon after half-time, it was also the same at Everton. A goal to us would have put us in a far better position. We need to start the 2nd half better like we did at Arsenal and against Brighton, but we need to score when we're giving sides the run-around. We conceded at Everton and against Chelski last night before we'd had a proper kick in the second half.

Why didn't we do a West Ham on them? Why didn't we do a Brighton against them? For a start, they underestimated West Ham, Conte made sure they didn't underestimate us. We were playing Chelski, not Brighton. Cheslki's lads are payed about 10x and the rest more than ours and it's not just because they have a benevolent owner. They won this division last season for a reason. Their speed of thought, speed of passing, speed of running and speed of surrrounding us when we had the ball was more than just a notch above us. Why they didn't perform against West Ham I don't have a scooby-do, but anyone that thinks we've a squad anywhere near as good as their's needs to give their head a shake. Back in August we'd have shrugged our shoulders at a 3-1 defeat at home to Chelski. We've bigger fish to fry, starting with Southampton and Stoke. Anything from Watford on Saturday is another bonus. That's coming up.

Can't believe Dean Whitehead played a full half without getting booked. I thought he'd been brought on to kick some ass. Actually played his best for yonks.
