If I were a Man City fan I'd be horrified that Jadon Sancho rips apart an international tournament and at 17 when offered his first proper contract by City he opts to go to Bayern. If I were a Chelsea fan I'd be bemused that they've had one of the country's best youth set-ups for years and have brought through zero players. Solanke went to Liverpool, Lukaku had to go to Everton for a game, Chalobah goes to Watford and immediately makes the England squad. They worry about replacing Matic, but have loaned out Loftus-Cheek who could. Tammy Abrahams scored 926 goals last season in the worst Bristol City side for years, does that get him a first team run as Costa won't play, no, off he goes to Swansea and Chelsea have even got the stupidity to bid for Llorente.

The point is the the best English player by a country mile is Dele Alli. Where was he produced? What is different about him? He played the lower leagues at 17. PLAYED!

In Divisions One and and Two if a club can do its job developing players properly it can have three or more 18-20 year-olds in its Saturday eighteen that it has produced itself rather than imported from some random club with which someone has a tenuous connection.

Loans are just a broken developmental system attempting to survive. They are better than nothing but you learn games by playing them.

Imagine Dancing has an apprentice at his company looking promising. Does he decide I'll send him to that tin-pot firm down the road, that has no record of successful staff-training, and then not even insist that they let the lad do the job, but instead make him spend his time sitting back watching the tin-pot outfit's regulars come up with their usual bodged efforts?

Dancing would have to be mental, but that's what we're doing with Ricky German and it happens all the time in English football.

Small clubs like ours have an advantage in development because we can give individual attention and offer a school-leaver a decent (rather than a dog's) chance of playing in the league. Luckily Pooch it sounds as though we won't have to wait for GC's fearful attempt to develop Joe Rowley a hundred miles from home.

Where are Crewe now Dancing ? ,fat lot of good thats done them .Its all about having the right manager to use the resources in the best way .Dario Gradi was great at that .

Crewe are no worse than us and at least they had 4 or 5 years in the old Championship, when did we do that?

Crewe had loads of success with their youth policy. Imagine how well they'd have done if they hadn't tied sex into the deal.

That they fell to earth from their time in the Championship had nothing to do with young players. Old financial failings, mismanagement and criminality were the cause. Not their youth policy.
