WBA Transfer Window - Final Day
TBH it's only a million pound
Allows a youngster out on loan
Now if any of you are on Twitter and this amazed me but Everton fans are genuially sad he is leaving
I will post some comments later
Some include best passer of the ball at the club by a mile reads the game so well
He's to good for WBA seriously guys
And he was their player of the season in 2016 ?
So for a year or two for a million quid seems a good clever signing to me Thumb up

I think Barry would suffice as a standby for a year maybe, but I will take a punt it will be a two year deal and the fact that he is only a couple of games off breaking Ryan Giggs record for the most number of premiership, games says it all. Which of aour multitude of defenders is not getting a game, will it be Yac or Livermore, unless of course TP has plans playing 3 defensive midfielders, Field may as well as look for a loan (that may be a good thing though with the right loan). What is the betting another striker next, every position except the ones we are desperate for, a creative midfielder (or two, three if Chadli goes) and a dedicated FB.

When you think it was just 8/9 years ago when we shipped a 34 year old Kevin Philiips out, because he was too old and wanted a two year contract and we did not have to actually go out and acquire him. Mind you how wrong were the club, note I am saying club and not "we" as I don't think I saw to many posts at the time from fans saying Philips was to old for a two year contract.

Beefy, how big is your wallet ....... "it's only a million pounds".

The nerve of Everton fans ..... a small club in Liverpool, ....... he's too good for Albion. We were on their arses all last season until our small squad ran out of steam ....... a squad that cost a fraction of their also rans, 25 years in the premier league, we're only 8 years and were not a million miles behind them.

Don't dis any club, accept those that think their bigger than they are, "we won the European cup you know" you know who they are, Lily whites, florists, seals ........

Salop, good point 're super kev', but he was 34 not a few months off 37. We have little possession in games, so a defensive midfielder is going to be working very ard and need a good engine and legs, at 37 has he got it ....... time will tell.

Football terms one million is nothing ...... what's his weekly?

If when he signs I will get behind him ( he may need a push from time to time) as long as he wears the blue and white with pride and gives his all ........

Still concerned though, a player that has been injured three years, a loan player, a player without a work permit and a 36 1/2 year old, great window so far ........

Totally agree with you 4eva, I thought it was madness to let Philips go and as you point out he was only 34 which was the point I was making "Super Kev your scoring for fun, but you are 34, so you are to old - bye bye". "Oh Mr Barry, your only 37 - come on down". I have a feeling Hengazi is going to earn a big following, as he seems an honest hard worker some what similar to "the Swede", a few years ago. Rodrequez looks positive, "IF" we can keep him fit.

Not disputing the talent of Jay Rod, only its a risk with our lack of striking options to bring a player with so little recent football unless we get another as well, he has done well but we're only one injury away from being down to one striker again, a big bit of our problem last term was lack of goals, could easily be the same again this time ....... Hengazi seems to be a steal and if he keeps it up, a sure thing for a permanent deal ......with a wafer thin squad we need players in ..... the four so far only two are possibly playable long term ...... one is a PR stunt and one is an academy player, Barry not signed yet but differently not one for the future ........

Stekelenberg, Coleman, Baines, Jagielka, Bolasie, Williams, Lennon, Schneiderlin, Barkley and, er, Lukaku.

Barry was voted the best player in the team of this lot.

If we get him for £1m, this a hell of a signing.

If he's good enough, he's young enough.

Gareth Barry to leave Everton armed with the admiration of everyone

And why Ronald Koeman may need to find a replacement
BY PHIL KIRKBRIDE
11:25, 15 AUG 2017UPDATED11:26, 15 AUG 2017

Ronald Koeman has reluctantly agreed to sell one of the best players he has ever managed.

That’s not speculation or conjecture, it’s what the Everton boss said.

It was in the hours after the Blues’ 2-1 win over West Bromwich Albion in August last year when Barry was the surprise match-winner, popping up at the back post to head home the winning goal, and put the icing on a typically pristine display.

“...he’s still one of the best players that I have managed in my teams because of the cleverness of him in football is really a high quality,” Koeman said.

The manager’s admiration for the 36-year-old has not slipped, even if Barry has fallen down the pecking order at Goodison since that afternoon at the Hawthorns, and it’s exactly he was at first reticent, but ultimately agreed, to let him go.

Barry, to his eternal credit, does not want to spend the final years of his career as a bit-part player and so wanted to take up an opportunity to be first-choice under Tony Pulis at West Brom.

Gareth Barry shakes hands with Roberto Martinez after agreeing a three-year permanent deal with Everton in 2014
Evertonians will be disappointed to see him go but no-one will begrudge him the move; they may even applaud his desire.

They know he’ll be superb for the Baggies, just like he has been for Everton over four seasons and 155 games.

This is the strongest Everton squad I've known says Gareth Barry
A quiet but classy operator, Barry instantly commanded the respect of his team-mates and steadily won over sceptical elements of the Blues’ support.

Roberto Martinez didn’t always get it right in the transfer market but landing Barry, first on loan and then permanently for a nominal fee, was one the club’s shrewdest pieces of business in recent times.

Gareth Barry celebrates scoring his side's winning goal against West Brom at The Hawthorns on August 20, 2016
The former Manchester City man isn’t flashy, he’s not quick, he doesn’t score many goals or skip past the opposition but his range of passing is extensive, his understanding of the game is total and his speed of thought is what ties it all together.

He’s also got bottle, highlighted by the fact that during Martinez’s final season, which unravelled at speed, he emerged with credit, being named the club’s Player of the Year and the Players’ Player of the Year awards.

This is the truth about those Gareth Barry exit rumours
All wrapped up in an immaculate sense of professionalism, the veteran midfielder will be missed at Everton, so much so that when his move to West Brom is complete, possibly today, they are left without a natural back-up to Morgan Schneiderlin – it may force Koeman into a revision of his remaining transfer plans.

His wish-list should now read: ‘Gylfi Sigurdsson, a striker, a left-sided defender....and a replacement for Barry’.

On Saturday afternoon, Koeman spoke about being “happy” to keep him, there has even been talks about the offer of a new deal, but hinted that he would allow this “great professional” to leave in search for regular game-time if he so wished.

He does. And today Barry is edging closer to a move to West Brom, the place where Koeman delivered the fullest of praise possibly available to him.

Barry’s Everton team-mates would all concur with their manager and so let’s leave it to Leighton Baines to provide a fitting final word on a player they call Gaz Baz.

“He is the biggest example of a standard setter in that respect,” he said, last season. “I have got so, so much respect for him.

"He is one of the best players I have ever played with because he’s unbelievable.”

Not Injury prone either ................

Barry has played 30+ Prem games in 18 of the last 19 seasons. He's finished in the top half in 14 of those, and in the top 6 in 10 of them.

I've always liked Barry as a player throughout his career, but, like most on here, was miffed when we were linked with him, because of his age.
BUT (BIG but) - I can see that this is a bloody good signing; a class player who CAN still perform at the top of his game, consistantly. Just because our past windows have been very underwhelming doesn't mean that we shouldn't look the old gift horse in the mouth (pardon the pun) .
Great signing......let's have a few more (....and a few more young uns), Tony!

Barry has been a good player throughout his career and can probably still pass the ball better than most of our lot BUT I really don't think we have any room for a player with no legs in the middle of the park. Given that we play with circa 30% possession every week, a lot of work is demanded from our midfielders and at 36, I doubt he's up to it.

Screams of a lack of money (and ambition) signing.

I mean could you get a slower midfielder duo in any league than Yacob and Barry?

I don't mind IF we sign a younger player as well, but I'm not holding my breath. IMO we desperately need a box to box bomber to support the striker from the middle of the park.

As long the 'Bomber' is fast, skillful, has vision and can pass a ball accurately Slick....
