Home Nations (+Eire) roundup

Not watching the game due to being at work but it sounds like a good old fashioned British blood and thunder type of game!!! For me this is a must win for Scotland being a home game and due to the lead Poland have in the group.

Well there you have it - Scotland 1 Eire 0. A deserved result against what turned out to be a disappointingly thuggish Irish side. No red cards in the end but McGeady was luck not to be shown a second yellow twice within the space of a few minutes, once for repeatedly ignoring the ref telling him to move back ten yards for a free kick (don't really get why he was time-wasting with this side losing) and once for a foul on Mulgrew that he was going to commit until Quinn got in his hack first. Much needed result for us, although it still only draws us level on points with them.

Less good was Northern Ireland going down 2-0 in Romania, but it's not all bad news as Greece lost at home to the Faroe Islands!

Greece lost at home to the Faroes? Really?

Bloody hell, they did an all. Goodnight Ranieri.

The great thing about the way the Faroes keep getting these shock results is that it's been consistent over a long period. It's not like they just produced one great team or had one inspired coach. Well done to them.

Mind you, Greece are really shit.

England have won 3-1 against Slovenia and qualification is already all but assured. At the other end of the table San Marino have held Estonia to a 0-0 draw, taking their first point from any qualifier (either WC or Euros) in 10 years.

Add to that the win by Liechtenstein and the traditional minnows have had a very good weekend!!! The 4-0 win by Germany will be seen as a great result by Gibralter as well!!

Good win for England, no idea how they played as I didn't see it, but 4 wins out of 4 is obviously a great start to the group!! 6 points clear at this stage is as good as we could have hoped for.

International breaks are so bloody boring. It shows how boring a weekend this has been that I am looking forward to watching the Belgium/Wales match.

0-0 between Belgium and Wales. A much better result for the visitors who remain top of their group. Belgium one of several European teams who have suffered a post-WC slump in form. Former Arsenal and Rangers player Georgios Efrem scored a hat-trick for Cyprus in the same group against Andorra, who are vying with Gibraltar for the worst record in these qualifiers.

Malta adding to the run of results for the minnows, grabbing a 1-1 draw in Bulgaria. They're maybe a step up from the worst of them, but that was still their first goal scored in about a year.
