Pointless - this week W, X, Y, or Z
John Osborne played right-half for England Schoolboys before converting to Keeper somewhere along the way.
Then I watched Gordon Nisbet play goalie for our Youth & Reserves Team. Couldn't believe it when he turned out at right-back for the 1st team a year or 2 later, but he was really good, and I'm sure he got picked for England U21s or U23s, as it was at the time. Can anyone verify?

Can't verify, talkSAFT, but I seem to remember these 2 facts too. Amazing, eh?
Maybe Boaz should be tried up front?

64 Cup Final??

Hello Hello
Joey Mayo,  Joey Mayo

Such a trier, but not quite upto 1st Division standard when we got back in '76. But they loved him at Leyton Orient (who we sold him to). I got a cab in London once, and the Driver never stopped telling me how good Joe was. (I lied that we really missed him!  Laugh  )

Joey Mayo is from Tipton! Also Steve Bull, David Burrows, "Iron Edwards," Jack Holden and The Tipton Slasher  Smartass

Sorry to go back to M, but was Joey Mayo part of the deal that brought Laurie Cunningham to the Hawthorns? I'm trying to remember but one of you will know. He was a real trier but, as already said, the skill level didn't match the effort, although I recall him scoring a good header against Bolton (I think). Still, if he, in some way, facilitated Laurie's move to the Albion, then Joey deserves to be remembered fondly by Baggies fans.

Adil Nabi (and his brothers!) I am sure he played in a couple of cup matches.
Our present fullback Alan Nyom
I also thiought James O'Connor was a useful midfielder.

Joe Mayo was such a humble bloke and the crowd loved him for it.
He - and we - knew he wasn't the greatest. He completely missed a sitter one match at the Brummie Road End and fell flat on his face. Instead of groaning, the BRE just fell about laughing, and he got up and shrugged his shoulders to which we sang his name out loud and did so ever after!
And when Giles moved Len Cantello to left-back, Len wouldn't give up his no.4 shirt. (That was when shirt numbers reflected exactly where you played, 1 to 11). Nobody else would wear the no.3, but Joe put his hand up and claimed it! Most Centre Forwards (and he was about 6'2") wore the 9 shirt as a badge of honour, but not humble Joe!
