Blue its the way we are set up to play that's the issue. We have got the players to make a go of it. Problem is we give the opposition far to much space in midfield. Until we change that we will struggle. Its no good backing off all the time it just means sooner or later they will get a shot in and even you don't seem to have confidence in our keeper. Its also pulling everybody back in the box for corners. it just invites the opposition on and we are facking useless at defending from set pieces as in Grimsby on Sat. At least if we have 2 or 3 players out of the box there will be 3 or 4 less opposition players in there.
If GC doesn't or as seems to be the case wont change his mind set, I can see another long season ahead.

I think other than Phil Bonnyman, Albert Holmes was my favourite player. I'm sure I once saw him slide from St Margaret's Drive, take the ball and finally come out looking slightly confused near Brockie Res. How he didn't play for a better team I'll never know. AND there is a duty encumbent on every Chesterfield fan to fcukupp Bob's Board.
We needed to recruit a midfield player who at a push could do a job at centre back when there are injuries - that kind of player. We didn't do it. We also needed a midfield player who would back up the forwards and look like scoring goals (which gives defenders more to think about). We didn't do it. We also needed pace because that terrifies defenders. We haven't much. So we can't press effectively and when we do win the ball we struggle to move ourselves and it with sufficient pace to leave the opposition behind. We give the opposition space and don't create enough for ourselves.
I've no confidence in Joe Anyon but we are giving him a pretty impossible job.
I'd love Pooch to be right. I'd love to be wrong. But we look like the next Orient. We're steering for the rocks and it ain't Ross Poldark on the beach waiting.

What gets to me about Bob's Board is when things get apocalyptic there's always a lobby advocating starting an AFC Chesterfield ....... but they always wait for catastrophe to strike first. They never just set up a club or start raising funds or do anything. It's as though they are sitting around waiting for ashes to rise from ........ By my reckoning we're about two weeks away from this season's call for an AFC Chesterfield.
Come on Kevin Nolan, you've shown every sign of being able to select an even shittier team than Gary Caldwell. Do it for us will you mate?

Just got back ,I felt this was true test of our ability and Im afraid to say the team failed .Let me start by saying County were awful to watch ,it was like going back in time to the hoofball of the 90s they just chucked it into our box in the hope it would drop for one of their players which eventually it did.We are partly to blame for not stopping it a source but there was only one team trying to play football and that was us ,unfortunately we werent very good at it .
Again I have to blame Joe Anyon for their first goal ,again he let a ball go in directly above his head while stood on the line ,I know he isnt very tall but shorter keepers generally make up for lack of height by having a good leap but he doesnt seem to have the spring .
Overall his display was ok its just that frustrating lack of ability to stop the ball going in over his head ,thats the third time in as many games .He doesnt look as if hes making the effort to stop it .which is very frustrating .Nearly every keeper would have tipped it over .xxxx reach for the ball man !.We should have kept Stuckmann !.
Ive been disappointed with both the signings from Scunthorpe ,neither look bothered to be honest.
Having said all that ,we didnt really deserve anything from the game ,we didnt create enough chances and it saddens me to look at the table and see we are 92nd in the Football League (I refuse to say EFL) considering where we were just over two years ago.
Its also worrying to see the lack of discipline ,we cant go though games with ten men on the pitch every week .Players were losing their heads all over the place .
After today I am genuinely worried and any pre season optimism I had has gone out the window.

Blue, welcome to the club. Anyon apart is it the team or the way they have been told to play? Didn't go yesterday but it sounded pretty dire.

I'm sorry Pooch. You don't deserve this. I bought the Non-League Paper again today. That IS where we are going.
This manager has won 9% of his games for us. Arguably last season he turned a relegation-threatened side into the second worst behind Hartlepool in league football. This season, without Hartlepo0-1 he's quickly proved he can achieve his ultimate goal. He's a dreamer sleep-walking us into oblivion.
To answer Dancing's question it has to be both the players and the way they are trying to play. I really can't fit the the squad into a team I think even reaches the heights of POOR. We have roles with no-one to fill them - no defensive midfielder or attacking midfielder AND it seems GC has placed his reliance on wingbacks who are having no positive impact on the game. He even widened our pitch to accommodate them, but that will only emphasise our lack of pace and allow the opposition to use the space. If you play wingbacks they are expected to give attacking width, wide outlets in midfield and cover at the back. Ours are succeeding in ZERO areas of the field. That means our terminally slow pensionable defence cannot work, commits fouls and gets sent off through lack of pace. Notts County have the slowest, most geriatric, most zimmerish attack imaginable - but they were too much for us.
GC even played the front three i wanted him to pick but he doesn't sound as though he set them up to cause anyone problems. I was hoping Dennis would provide the link we lack between midfield and attack, take advantage of situations created by Ugwu and CO'G and even score a goal in open play. Not only didn't that happen, it apparently didn't look like it. We didn't even get a corner against a team that will sack its manager before Christmas and be in the bottom six.
Even a normal organisation which has appointed a manager who is clearly proving incapable of doing the job he has been employed for COULD SACK HIM! Compensation and paying up contracts has become the norm in football, but a 9% win rate is a measurable standard by which we can judge performance as inadequate. Being permanently bottom of leagues is another. Recruiting badly is another. If we can't get rid of him legally take him to Ladybower and drown him like the village. Get Danny back, bring back the Hump, get a random one of the many many managers who are out of work and would love the challenge. How could we do worse? Tony McShane was the worst manager in my life until NOW. This is the worst we've ever been. El-Fitouri had the right idea - Tripoli is a better bet. He obviously chose it because he thought it was better organised.
Suggestion: play Lee in goal and German up front. Select the nine in-between them at random and see if it is any worse.
By the way both Tommy Lee and Joe Anyon say they are 6' 2". I don't believe either of them or else Dancing is 7' 2".

I just think the players from 1 to 11 arent doing it ,Hird has been very hit and miss this season ,doing something good one minute and making an error the next.
Dennis was the only 7/10 player yesterday the rest were disappointing maybe some credit has to go to the opposition who despite being terrible to watch with the ball were in our faces when they didnt have the ball.
We definitely have to bring in a 90% fit Tommy or get a quality replacement ,poor keeping has cost us in every season without him.Akeeper who lets soft goals in gives no confidence to the defence and the rest of the team .
I like Caldwells philosophy of playing football the right way and when it does go right we look good but those times are few and far between.I still think we should at least give him until the end of September to see if there is any improvement .
Dev bringing Danny back would definitely not be the right thing to do ,if youre going to replace a manager if has to be with someone who is going to improve us .This is where we are failing ,Saunders didnt improve on Cook ,Wilson didnt improve on Saunders and so far Caldwell hasnt really improved on Wilson .We have to stop this downward spiral and if we are going to replace Caldwell we have to be as near as certain it is with someone who is going to improve us and take us back up the league.
Id bet anyone a fiver that Tommy is taller than Joe .
