Ranocchia and Evans would be ideal as a centre back pairing. Would just need a mobile centre mid then and we're halfway there.

Ranocchia would be a decent acquisition.

As much as I love Gareth McAuley, at 37, his days are numbered and we need someone really solid in the air to replace him. Ranocchia is good in the air but also very decent on the ball, giving us more options to play out from the back.

The fee touted seemed relatively modest too, so fingers crossed on this one.

I'm not going to write Gary Mac off until he has 2 or 3 poor performances. Last season he was almost immaculate considering the onslaught the defence had to put up with without a breather!
If he'd lied about his age we wouldn't be talking about a replacement yet - he could be 30 judging by his performances last year.
True, he made a couple of errors, but not as many as most 25-30 year olds,and the best CHs usually play in a team who have 60% possession.

True, the guy is a beast, especially in the air. Probably the most under rated player I've seen.

There's absolutely no doubt that when he goes, we will concede more headed goals and not score as many because his aerial power is impossible to replace.

But realistically, at 37, we do need to be easing him into a squad role, unfortunately. Really we could do with 2 centre backs coming in as we're yet to replace Olsson, who featured a few times last season before we let him go after safety was achieved. Ranocchia and a youngster would be ideal. But we're that short in so many departments, I guess we will sign one and Dawson as the 4th centre back again - I think he's much better as a right back.

Huddersfield signing players, Bournemouth signing players, £20 million for one, Everton signing the whole world ......

All we are saying is give us a ....... signing. Does not rhyme but please please please, something happen soon.

Players we're linked with now linked with Liverpool Everton and the usual suspects ....... whish we would identify, negotiate and sign players before the rest could poach them.

With the likes of Bournemouth spending hugely on Defoe and now another £20m on some defender, wouldn't it be fantastic if, the next time we looked here, we read that we've just spent £***m on some fantastic world class forward??

Ha. 'Grace' - God's love lavishly poured out on people who don't deserve it (like me). So, one brilliant theological idea and one mild swearword for (nearly) all occasions. What a great package.
