London Fire Question
#11
Can we politicise this tragedy ? ,you bet .Will we ever know the true figure how many were killed seeing as there may have been illegal immigrants living there ?.
I am no racist but I watched the footage and I thought we were looking at a riot another country ,Is London like that nowadays ? If so my heart sinks.
What has happened to England ? Its not like these people are coming here to live in prosperity and making our country a more prosperous place to live .I read recently that immigration increases a countires GDP .I find that hard to believe ,average GDP will be distorted by the top 5 % of the very richest .
These Tower blocks were built 50 or more years ago to cope with the increasing population ,now we hear there are 6 people living in a one bed flat .The last 50 years of selfish greedy governments have led to this ,starting with Thatcher and including 'NEW' Labour ,politicians prioritising their own interests with their heads buried in the sand .

It seems to me you are complaining about the advance of capitalism ..... and its contradictions.

Growth is inherent to capitalism, but space and resources are finite. We can and do grow the population via our loins but that isn't fast enough for the monster we've created. We need immigration to grow markets quickly and to provide cheap labour. But we imagine we can't really afford our migrants, so we have no alternative but to exploit them.

The irony of much economic migration that it is not the poorest who migrate. The poorest can't afford it. They haven't the time. They are too busy being very poor indeed.

Those who migrate have some education and assets to sell. Economic migration, legal and illegal doesn't come cheap. You buy it with everything you have. So whilst in comparison to fellow countrymen the migrants may not have been the poorest, they arrive in our country and find they are now amongst our poorest. Then irony of ironies disaster strikes here. Their new home is destroyed and they are back to nothing. And we find that in the area they now live almost 1400 potential homes are unoccupied because they are owned as investments by the world's richest in the middle east, Russia, China and south east Asia, whose only interest in our country is that it remains stable and investable (despite the fact that much of their wealth is traded on money markets whose specific aim is to destabilise, gamble and profiteer.)

If in a mad moment the country let me take over from Aspergers in May, my first act would be to create a permanent Truth Commission which would deal with any issue in which we perceive establishing the simple truth to be more important than apportioning blame with a view to punishment. It is highly unlikely anyone made decisions thinking there was any possibility of lots of people dying. We need to hear what all those involved thought and why they did what they did and why they didn't listen. What were the pressures they perceived on their decisions? We want them to tell the whole unvarnished truth, not to invent some process to drag it from people dissembling in fear jail. Because in this sort of situation we need to know how and why so that we don't do the same or similar things things again. If Kensington and Chelsea cut corners in order to impress their own Tory government we need to know that and the government needs to hear it too. Because you can't help politicising this. Sudden death, poverty, immigration, representation, they're plainly political issues, but it isn't only Tories who don't listen and haven't listened. We need truth here. We have a choice between vengeance for the dead and protection of the living.

And whilst I'm having a Sunday rant, apparently the Archbishop of Canterbury is advising the PM. Perhaps he could start with a lesson on truth for this vicar's daughter. When you are asked a question where does the C of E tell us to avoid it completely or answer something completely different? As an atheist who went to a Church school I might not be the best source, but I reckon Christ supposedly went to the cross because he did answer questions, he did simply tell the truth. Perhaps her Christianity should start there.
