Can't beat Swindon, how about Newbury?

I agree about the wages Pooch, but look at the loans, just two of them - one is a very good Championship player who Villa were fools not to keep and the other plays in the Bundesligia ......... They were additions to our strength, Caldwell's boys really aren't better than what we've got.

My thoughts as regards the manager are that the next two games are convenient. If we were going to escape we'd have to win both (for a start). If we gain 4 points or fewer Mr Caldwell should be called before what remains of our administration/board and offered the following choices:-
1. Leave now by mutual agreement - a nice guilt-free story would be concocted not to harm his future prospects.
2. Sign a good contract to stay until the end of next season that we would honour, agree to start re-building NOW, accept the insertion of swingeing penalty clauses should he leave for another job, or try to do so, BUT fully explain the financial position of the club he is taking on.
3. Face the sack either immediate, or at the end of the relegation season, judged on his results.

If/when Caldwell opts to go, or is sacked, we appoint Mr Humphreys. And he re-builds.

I'd be surprised if we could beat Shrewsbury, but Peterborough are anybody's guess, they could put six past us, or lose.

Whilst we are talking about rose-tinted specs, compare Mr Caldwell's fumbling, idiot start, designed to wreck any remaining team spirit with Danny Wilson's second game. How many did he put past Shrewsbury? Was it SEVEN? Let's ask Len Goodman ....... that's one to consider tomorrow.

Dev ,It was a fluke result as proved by all the other results ,I think you can count the number of good results under Wilson in a year on one hand

Danny Wilson won 18 games as manager and Dean Saunders 8.

18 out of 57 aint a great record but it does seem a lot considering how crap we were most of the time .To be honest the whole Wilson reign was overshadowed by the last few months of awful results.

I honestly believe we would have stayed up had DW been in charge. OK it wouldn't have been pretty but it would have been a damn site better than the absolute garbage being dished up at the moment. Add to that the fact that DW at least gave our own youngsters a chance.

I suppose its down to the personalities that makes me prefer Caldwell over Wilson.I listened to Wilson and he almost put me to sleep and that reflected on the pitch but I listen to Caldwell and I think there's a guy who knows what hes on about and is a modern thinking coach ,trouble is it is not being reflected on the pitch at the moment but he convinces me enough that I'm willing to be a little bit more patient .My goodness if Wilson was allowed a year surely Caldwell should be given until the end of the season.

Problem is Blue there are a lot of fans who like me will be throwing the towel in the ring before the end of the season. I am not going to be going today or Tuesday night. Caldwell told negative fans to stay away so am doing just that. You cant serve up negative dross on a football field and expect no criticism. He picks the team he choses the tactics, he brought in the biggest load of crap loanees and he very conveniently blames everybody else including me for his own mistakes. If he sends the lot of them back and picks our own youngsters then I will go to matches again. Until that happens "I'm out".
For the record if he persists with crap tactics to the end of the season I wont be renewing my ST's until he's gone.

Hmmm choice between a modern failure and an ancient success ...........

Pooch, you are the one that kept supplying us with managerial win ratios. Danny is only just behind Harry Redknapp and Allardyce .......... I don't like Neil Warnock and think he is in the running for the worst player I've ever seen in pro' football ...... but he's a bloody good manager and he's in much the same bracket. Danny made mistakes (not least Morgan!) , but there were surely massive constraints on what he could do as there are on Caldwell. Dean Saunders was a great talker, very media friendly, but he doesn't seem to get the results. Paul Cook and Sheridan were hardly inspiring conversationalists outside a pub were they? But they got us promotions.

Caldwell is wasting time we could put to good use. He could be team building. He could be playing our players and addressing problems like will Tommy Lee ever play again, have we anyone coming through to replace him ..... our defenders are shuffling off the footballing coil, where do we start to replace them? WE ARE DOWN. That isn't Caldwell's fault. Being down might even be a good thing if we haven't any way to get ourselves a Division One team at the moment. But we would have to have a manager who seems interested in OUR players and if I were one of those players or just a supporter I'd judge him by his actions. And I think he's treading water in a job he'll say is impossible till he can get something better.

I hate to see Dancing talk so negatively because in general he is an optimist BUT it is understandable. What he says is right. Caldwell might not be a bad man. He might become a successful manager. But at some point he is going to have to change direction. Imagine the worst possible scenario, two defeats before Wednesday. Eight games left, SIX WINS AND A DRAW THE TASK FROM EIGHT GAMES! What on earth would be the point of playing a single loanee in that impossible situation? And what will be your opinion when/if he goes and does it?

Any manager who has a constant 30 % win rate shouldnt last a year .We stuck with Danny far too long because he was 'one of us '
Ill be there this afternoon and i will be there next season.
Dev ,I used to enjoy listening to Paul Cook he was interesting and generally positive, a bit like Caldwell .

Blue, A lot managers talk a good game but don't deliver one. Just because Caldwell is interesting and positive (god help) doesn't make him a good manager.
