Match Thread - SWFC v Rotherham
I guess what I meant by stroke of luck is that our goal came from a set piece not in free play. In free play we were hopeless. Nobody threatened to score, so imo I don't think we deserved a win but like everyone else, I'll take it.

It was 3 points but a poor game to watch. We lacked creativity moving forwards. Been to most home games this season and yet to see a 'great' performance. We need to step up a few gears in the next part of the season.

Nothing wrong with the Rovrum 'goal' and I'd be fuming if that penalty was given against us.

We're a mess at the minute and are completely devoid of ideas now that other teams have watched last seasons videos. Lady luck will soon find another suitor and then where will we be ? I'm just glad that we only need two or three more wins and a few draws to avoid relegation.

newcastle will tear us a new one if cc doesnt do something drastic with the tactics (which he wont ) as we will play the same type of stuff that got us wins against Blackburn and the Village only this time we will be getting pelted with shots from players who know how to score Whistle and this will be our first real away game as far as the crowd is concerned ! the ref we should be use to ( fessi Doh ) lets hope someone sits him aside and gives him a clip round the ear before he walks on the pitch Whistle

we are going to have our hands full trying to stop diame ( get hutch on that c.unt from the off and not poncy bannan Doh loovens also is going to have to play his best ever game for us because all i can see if not is gayle running feffing rings around him Doh

we are in need of the boxing day gods on this one for sure but i think our luck has run out this year Sad if only this had been a home game Angry

We're a thread above average. My personal opinion was always that we'd bought our way in to the top 10, then over exceeded expectations, and credit due to the players, they were more than the sum of their parts, many experiencing a rich vein.

Effing circus at times now though.. Not deluding myself at all. Thank fook we don't have to worry about relegation anymore.

451 a must v Newcastle.

Ratings v Toytown.

Westwood 6 - nowt to do really
Palmer 5 - can't cross
Lees 6 - not much to deal with
Loovens 6 - see above
Pudil 5 - give Urby a chance

Reach 5 - worst game I've seen him play
Abdi 6 - was doing ok, then got injured
Lee 5 - not his usual energetic self, subbed @ HT
Hutch 7 - our best player

Joao 5 - confidence shot, snatched at every chance he had
Fletcher 6 - below average performance, though took penalty well.

Jones 6 - steady performance.
Wallace 5 - a winger who can't cross.
Nuhiu 5 - waste of a squad space, along with half a dozen others who need to go in January.

CC 5 - back to 442, and 3 central midfielders. At least he played Abdi in the centre but that moved Lee to the RW, another unbalanced line up. Would have put young Hirsty on instead of Nuhiu.

Most of the player's aren't playing up to last year's efforts, Hutch the only real exception and Tom Lees at times also. We have only played well in patches. How are we 6th in the table? We have managed to stay in just about every game, which has given us the chance to draw or win games late on. The performances must improve and several good signings required if we are to make the playoffs again or a midtable finish is on the cards.

Have to agree with A57, there hasn't been a standout home performance this season. My brother thinks it resembles two years ago, Gray's last season, but with slightly better players. We dominate possession and create a handful of good chances but our strikers keep missing them. We also get in some great positions but waste so many crosses with poor delivery. Last season Joao looked like a decent finisher, this season he can't buy a goal. He either snatches it first time, usually wide, or takes his time and lets defenders do their jobs. Like many I'm underwhelmed with the way the season is panning out so far but I'm hoping we can kick on in the New Year.

Yesterday epitomised what has been happening a lot so far this season. Rotherham were by far the most defensive team I've seen in a long time but understandably so given their current plight. We were just not incisive enough and wasted the few good chances we had. I can't say I have any idea why the Rotherham "goal" was disallowed but I will point out that the whistle went very quickly and it wasn't the first or last time it went for a Rotherham set piece. At the time I thought it was a clear penalty and wasn't surprised to see Wood get sent off for denying a goal. However, having seen it on telly I'm not sure it was either. I've seen them given but it was by no means a certainty.

All in all, not a great game but it's nice to beat Rotherham at our place for a change. I'm sure we've been on the wrong end of decisions aplenty, especially when we were struggling at the bottom, so I won't shed too many tears for Rotherham.

I'm not sure we'll get much in Geordieland but I'm not sure we'll get battered unless we have a monumental off day.

P.S. had a thought for MS at the minute's applause. Hope his family are bearing up, especially at this time of year.

I think the goal was not given for the fact that the second Rotherham player nearest obstructed our defender i thought that was obvious ? and joao threw himself on the floor it even made me cringe !!

We'd have been f'ucking fuming about both decisions if it was the other way round.

I can't get my head round this season, it's weird. Every game seems to be flat and boring and the wait for us to kick in to gear seems eternal. It's as though the season hasn't really started yet Huh I hope we don't have to put up with it much longer. Three points are great but I would also like to see some fire and passion in our games. It's just not there this season Confused
