CHESTERFIELD PREDICTION LEAGUE WINNER 2015/2016
More to Football than the Premier League and SKY
Thanks for that Matt. So we are fckdue like lots of other clubs, who may not even know it yet .........
I appreciated the club doing that. I can see the problems. BUT it did seem to me that they were consumed by the problems and that long-term the only real hope was the magical materialisation of an outside benefactor (and they were convinced there was no one coming forward). Frankly it isn't much use Chris Turner developing a thesis that the move from Saltergate has given us a ground, a debt and playing expectations we cannot meet long-term. We have moved, we are where we are and clearly the measures we've been applying were not solutions. Nevertheless it seemed to be the territory of those failed solutions we were examining for a way out of our problems. Like them I can't come up with ready answers. But it does seem unless we know in what way Mr Allen will play ball the club will be returning to him for further loans ........ and if we don't know what he intends I can't see the other four departed directors being keen to clarify their position either. If Mr Allen sticks at wanting £5 million for his shares, that investment will become worthless unless he pumps more and more cash in ........ so basically he is in a stand-off with himself. The interviewees went out of their way to point out many other clubs are in a similar position to us financially. They also pointed out rival clubs have even bigger staffs, so cuts for us would obviously be impossible. My reply would be that looking at how other clubs are failing to manage their finances is NOT likely to provide answers. In truth all such clubs need to cut their expenditure and that staff has to be looked at ...... If Chris Morgan and Danny went could Ritchie Humphreys cover both jobs? Why would a club without a keeper need a goalkeeping coach? Typically when questioned on cutting staff we looked at the lowest of the low - Match Day Stewards. The real savings would be much higher up the club ....... and yes that might involve players too, but there are lot of people paid for jobs not central to the performance of the club ...... The blinkered view that we have a smaller staff than some of our rivals seemed very defeatist to me. |
