The Derbyshire Flag

Every new season we come up with a second strip, which whether it is attractive or not, is always meaningless. It doesn't say anything about us. So when fans buy a shirt they've a badge too distant to decipher and probably the name of a sponsor.

Now I'm thinking if we want to fly the flag for Derbyshire, why not design a second strip for the future that does exactly that. In my mind's eye I envisaged the dark green at the top half of the shirt and sleeves merging into the pale blue lower down. The shorts would also be pale blue. Trim on the shirt would be gold to pick up the rose at the centre of the flag, as would the socks which would topped in the dark green and pale blue. Nobody has anything quite like that. As a matchday shirt it would look great, even vaguely continental. Sellable. And it would mean something, if you really wanted to be posh you could have a small gold Derbyshire rose printed on the shorts (taking sensible note of the male anatomy!)

We are the blues, and should remain so, but maybe if we were a bit more commercial in our design, our second strip could be more adventurous. What do you think?

We are already flying the flag, outside the ground which the trust put up last week.

Next Tuesday it's Derbyshire Day and I'll have my Derbyshire flag on display.

Yes Matt it is because we are flying the Derbyshire flag I made the suggestion ........... The point is our kit choices currently have no meaning. We are now known as a team that plays in blue ........ so that should be the basis of our first choice kit forever, but after that we seem to come up with strips randomly chosen by the club cat. So let's have a theme for the second kit ........ Derbyshire. The flag gives us colours. We could make it a permanent classic or come up with different designs on that same colour theme. Our address is Chesterfield, Derbyshire after all.

I think it could make a very good football strip. And it would sell. And you could wear it on Derbyshire day ........ and get beaten up in Manchester?
