Well Pooch we do need players with goals in them who aren't strikers. Rowley does look as though he'll chip in with some goals. Certainly that was Carter's job at Woking. Since O'Shea departed we haven't had a player who we really thought might score a few from deeper. That, of course, is the other good thing about Evans, the centre back from Aldershot. He scores a few goals and as I've kept on saying, we've neglected the onion bags for two seasons, having had little idea how to stop, or to score, goals. If Binnom-Williams plays he needs to start scoring a few - that was always one of my complaints about Tendayi marauding down the right, he'd played as a centre forward in youth football, he should have been scoring from full back. We do need a striker though. Hartlepool have taken a punt on Muir from Hendon in the Southern Premier to step up and do better than the players they've allowed to go to Salford. I would think we need a player we believe can score goals and another who might be a bit of a punt as back up.

Till we see the full squad it's difficult to play around with the likely line-up, though 4-4-2 sounds likely. Rowley anyway might be a problem in that it sounded as though he was changing physically last season and a few more months of maturing might turn out to be a good thing or a bad thing.

A lot of young players have these growth spurts and it does affect their game for a while until their brain and body realign .I hope this was the case last season for young Joe and he matures this season and picks up the promise he showed previously.
It does seem like we are signing big strong players this season and if they have ability as well it can only be a good thing ,as has been mentioned these type of players have been lacking in recent recruitment drives .

I think players do have to be strong enough to deploy their skill in the National League. The opposition won't just stand off and appreciate the pretty patterns. But a good footballer like Danny Whitaker can still be a good footballer.

If Joe Rowley wants it AND we actually work with him then I'm sure he can readjust his game, because he clearly can play.
I do, however, fear this is where we have been bad. Once a youngster hits 18, all that support he received as a junior seems to disappear. If he starts to slip back, or get things wrong we seem to lose sight of all the promise we'd identified when giving him a contract. But perhaps Joe's contract-length will focus minds on making the most of his talent.
We seem far too ready to blame a young player for not making the most of his opportunity, without assessing what is wrong that opportunity when such a high percentage fail to make the most of it.

Weston's just another player who might have kept Weir out of the team.
