Dev, have already said exactly the same thing myself. Hird played midfield when he was at Doncaster so knows what its all about.

Thing that still bothers me is up top. We seem to have a lot of good build up play but nobody to attack the goal with it aka Jack Lester. If Dennis is off his game (as he seems to drift in and out of games) or is absent we don't have anybody capable of doing anything from open play. Since Lester came our defence and midfield has improved but our forward play seems to have gone awol. That really surprises me knowing how Jack used to play.

Dennis has scored in 5 of last 6 games including yesterday (offside) so there is no problem with him up front but I am not sure whether he is as effective playing the lone striker.O Grady again looked ineffective when he came on ,Ive not seen him play before he came here but he looks a classic case of 'legs have gone' syndrome .In fact the more I see him the more he reminds me of SEB except the latter had goals in him.

I think that when he came to us SEB was trying to play a role he never played when he was a success. I think serious injury limited him - he was never the same again. He was a very different kind of player for Plymouth and Wolves - even a different shape.

O'Grady was always the kind of player he is now - only better. The last time he had goals in him was as a youth player.

Unfortunately GC left us short in certain parts of the field. Mitchell is the only man who wants to go forward wide and he can't get in the team.

It seems to me that whenever we think of getting forward centrally from midfield or out wide - we come up with Joe Rowley and the lad can't be everywhere, he can't do everything at once.

Did you see Chuks Aneke for MKD? The man is a mountain, he was a permanent threat from midfield ........ he had skill and he scored a freekick as if it were no bother. We've no presence remotely like that coming in behind our lone front man. MKD had a man out wide left cutting in to shoot and score and a young right back who looked a Premiership player in the making when coming forward ......... and an experienced, strong controlling midfielder who also made scoring look easy. And they are in the bottom half of the division we'd like to be in. We are miles and miles away from their level and that's not even mentioning Ebanks-Blake at centre back.

One thing I'd like to see us do is arrange some friendlies and try CO'G at centre back. Centre forwards used to drop back late in their careers .......... and we've another year and a half of a big contract we never should have signed.
