I'M a bit late to the after match party but here are my thoughts.
As soon as I heard the team news I said to my pals "I'm worried" Why was I worried? Well once again the manager decides to change the back central defensive partnership and it's almost like he's been in the old stock room at Town and pulled out the LC Bingo selection machine. Early on in the season the defence looked solid and now it looks anything but. He has to decide to give 2 players a chance of playing together in a run of games for them to instill confidence within each other.
We didn't play that bad on Monday night but we just make silly errors at the defensive end of the pitch and silly passes at the other end. Obviously things weren't helped by Hudson departing very early on and it's still beyond me why DW didn't bring Scannell off a lot,lot earlier. When WA scored the opener we were effectively playing with 10 men, we played the ball out and looked to use Scanz and then had to change tactic as it had suddenly struck his team mates that he was struggling to walk.
Second goal conceded, a comedy of errors. I may be wrong as I haven't watched it back once but from memory. Wells plays a stupid ball when a much simpler and easier pass was on and losses possesion Löwe does well to get some sort of tackle in on the forward but unlucky for us the WA eats a lucky rebound which he latches onto because he's alert and at least 7/8 yards inside his own half, mean while the other 2 Town players that are back defending are stood like statues, they may well have been 7/8 in the Wigan half as well but they were nowhere near covering a) the man b) the ball which meant a clear run at goal. Ward then decides to come, then he hesitates, then he finally comes but it's all too late...bang 1-2.
I don't mind this passing about the back, teams have sussed us and so it means we have to try and draw them out, but massive mistakes aren't going to help us and neither is the lack of movement. 1st half Kachunga makes a run out wide and takes the defenders with him, massive gap in the middle but where is the attacking midfielder(Kasey in this instance)...nowhere. He should be running into that position. If nothing else you are dragging players away from position and creating space elsewhere.
Not off to Blackburn at £27, parking right at the top of the hill and one tiny pub. I'll stay at home and save me brass.
