Victor Valdes is believed to have stopped training with Manchester United, dashing the club’s hopes of signing the free agent.

Valdes left Barcelona when his contract expired at the end of the season and was unable to find a new club due to an ongoing injury problem.

But the Spanish stopper resumed training in recent weeks as he joined up with the Manchester United squad, sparking rumours of him signing for the club.

However, reports on Catalunya Radio in Spain are today suggesting the 32-year-old has stopped training with Louis van Gaal’s side and has now opted to return to his home country.

Liverpool were also linked with Valdes over the summer and may now consider a move with Simon Mignolet coming in for a lot of criticism of late.

United should sign him to keep De Gea on his toes. Look at Hart for England he's took his eye off the ball (sometimes literally) but now Forster has been called up there will be competition between them for the England No 1 spot.

Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes will be sold after manager Louis van Gaal claimed he "refused to play" in the reserves.

The 33-year-old Spain international was a surprise omission from the pre-season squad currently touring the US.

"He doesn't follow my philosophy. There is no place for someone like that," said Van Gaal of his January signing.

Victor Valdes is a proven keeper and has won many accolades with Barcelona, why should he have played in the reserves? The problem United have now is if Valdes is sold and Real Madrid meet the buy out clause of De Gea who will United have as a keeper?

Reserve football is better than no football. Stefan Klos was superb at Rangers til he injured his knee and then couldn't get back in the starting eleven. He wasn't playing any games and when he got called on during a European match he turned in a totally amateurish performance in every respect. To see him you would never have believed he was a professional goalkeeper.

Anders Lindegaard Spirematt he`s an International keeper if that does happen

Bit intrigued how such a strong keeper as Begovic has gone to Chelsea as potentially back up, however pressure all on Courtois not to slip up as the competition behind him is a an immense standard

Bored to bits talking about De Gea to be honest and bored of hearing about it,-Just like any club you move on and hope your club buys the right person as a replacement

Hugo Lloris i`d guess would be an immediate name
Jasper Cillesen is a decent keeper but certainly not VDS class...yet
Marc-André ter Stegen interesting prospect!
Kasper Schmichael, nowhere near as good as his Dad but pretty decent
