I'm not sure if you guys have heard the reports but this morning in Spain, there was crowd trouble between Atlético Madrid and Deportivo La Coruña ultras a few hours before the match outside the Vicente Calderón Stadium. This crowd trouble has led to the death of a Deportivo fan.
As you guys may remember, I was in Coruña a few months ago to watch Deportivo play Rayo Vallecano. Before I went into the stadium to find my seat, I went for a walk around the entire outside of the stadium and I stumbled across the Deportivo ultras having their pre-match party with flares and music. Remembering this makes me think that the guy that will never return home to see his family may have been there that night and I may have even seen his face and the enjoyment that he would have been having with his mates.
This sort of incident really shows the bad side of football and how people can take a sport way too seriously because no one should have to die supporting their team. RIP to the Deportivo fan and let's hope that another incident like this doesn't happen again.
Boing Boing guys.
