I watched a very interesting documentary on BBC iPlayer about Third Lanark. I never knew this team existed until a Chesterfield fan told other fans to watch the documentary and see if you can spot parallels by what happened to Third Lanark. It seemed quite sad what happened to Third Lanark. There ground still exists today but its all overgrown on the terraces.

Yep! It's like a dilapidated ghost stadium if you ever visit it. A very sad story and it portrays the worst side of human nature by an individual who was hell bent on destroying the club, one that was challenging Rangers and Celtic during that fateful period.

What doesn't make sense though is he was a fan and was the manager for a short-time so why did he do what he did? Like you say they were challenging Rangers and Celtic at the time in Cups and could have gone on to be a very successful team with the right backing.
They rebirthed again back in 1996 and still play at Cathkin Park in the Greater Glasgow Amateur League. Be great if they can ever re-enter the Scottish League again.

I posted this on Scottish Football section but moved it over here. The documentary is no longer available.

One area in which Scottish football beats English is in the names of their clubs.
Third Lanark is part of my childhood. We used to have tea and the football results would be on the TV. I've always loved Brechin because they always lost! Third Lanark were there, Partick Thistle, Hibernian, Heart of Midlothian ....... St Johnstone. And my gran' always put sugar on her tomatoes. And if we were lucky there's be snowballs in the centre of the table, much bigger and better than those titchy things now.
Elgin City ........ and Elgin isn't a city. Stenhousemuir, what a lovely place name, and they've got a good cricket ground too.
