With Blatter’s re-election a foregone conclusion should we be

surprised by this?  Historically we invented many sports in the
Victorian era that are now played world-wide.  We take an almost
smug attitude that we invented the idea of fair “fair play” and
gave it away for free.  Maybe this is what grates: an entrepeneur
chancer like Blatter using politics to monopolise football on the
world stage.  He knows that real power means money; the rising
economies of the Middle East, China and Russia not poor Europe.
We may not like it but without isolating ourselves from the world
stage we are destined to be ignored forever.
