10 years on??
#1
I was just flicking through some old posts and it seems that at the start of the new season 'September', this group will be 10 years old, is that correct? That started me thinking about those of us that came across from previous forums such as 606 and I seem to remember others before that and some of the old characters like 'Beefy' and 'Moose'. Just how long have some of us been posting and when do we get our long service award? Whistle Whistle Peace dove

I've done 10 years as well, Salop (come Sept), after a few years on 606. It's a fair bit 'quieter' these days - which is a shame - and we should all contribute more. My excuse is I haven't been to a match for 4 years so don't have the same knowledge of the current team. From Cornwall's a long drive on a Sat morning (let alone Sun/Mon matches!)

FireyMoose was a pain, but Beef was good 'company'. Laugh

Best friend of all the players, knew everything, owned the Peroni brewery!
I've also been on the group pre 606 I think.... seems more like 20 years though! Blush Big Grin Big Grin

Bloody Hell you are right Sportsbabble 10 years old come September!!

That means I have spent close on £10k of my children’s inheritance keeping it intact.

I must love West Brom a lot (and you guys, of course)!!

I spent years on BBC 606 then went to ‘New606’.

New606 started well but then was totally unreliable and was often crashed for days on end. So someone back then contacted me and suggested I save the forum because I seemed ‘sensible’.

Fierymouse was a decisive character but I miss him. Not as much as Beefy though, never got to know why he stepped away. Only good think is that he seems to have a Twitter (I’ll never use the X description) and so at least we know he is in good health.

I am closing in on retirement at the end of the Year and so potentially it’s time to hand of the reins to new ownership (though I’ve said that for a few years now and nobody has shown any interest).

Great work, Stairs!!
'Hand over to new ownership' ?? Didn't realise - and don't realise - what that might mean, but hope you've got somebody involved and interested.

Thanks - No-one has shown any interest in taking Sportsbabble on and so until they do it's is still myself and Mark keeping it all afloat.  But the State pension is not going to go far if most of it pays to keep the Sportsbabble lights on.

Hey Stairs - I know that I speak for literally EVERYONE on the forum when I say a huge "THANK YOU" to you, for providing us with this platform.
I must admit that I have no idea what commitment and cash this takes as an ongoing issue, and also that I admit that I have really taken this for granted....
.... BUT NOT ANY LONGER!!
I hope you can work things out regarding the balance you need to both keep the platform running and keeping you (and Mark) sane and viable Thumb up Thumb up

Completely agree,Drewks! Stairs, thank you for all you’ve done to make this site such an enjoyable read. As someone who lives in Scotland and doesn’t get to many games, the contributions keep me closely in touch with everyone’s feelings about all aspects of the club. That’s primarily down to you, Stairs, so thank you so much
