Last 20 mins looked like a side again. Shocking defending for their goal. Great finish from Wallace, and a lovely delivery from Smith for Daly's goal.

SPFL2 (Championship) 03/01/2015 : Rangers 3-1 Dumbarton
That was a match, in the true sense of the word, fair play to Dumbarton. Rangers were good going forward, but at sixes and sevens in defence. Rangers created more chances and could have scored 5 or 6, but even so, the 3-1 scoreline implies that Rangers had more control over the opposition than was actually the case. Still, I am not complaining, it is results that matter and the combination of results today sees Rangers close to 13 points on Hearts and increase the gap back to Hibs to 6 points. A good start to 2015, let it continue thus. Match Report : Rangers FC - Rangers 3-1 Dumbarton Attendance : 30,031 - that's better, just need another 20K from now on. I just don't even know how to describe how bad our defending is right now. Seems like every time an opposition team comes forward they have 3 or 4 men standing unmarked in acres of space. What the xxxx do our defenders (and midfielders) think they're supposed to be doing when we don't have the ball? It's certainly not marking. It's never marking.
Shaky start to the match but you could see confidence growing in the players after our equalizer, and we spent most of the match playing the ball on the ground so some progress there (no Ian Black - coincidence?). Foster had a total nightmare against Hibs but was one of our best players today although he was still as guilty of woeful marking as the others. Miller should have scored on at least a couple of occasions but at least he was making chances for himself, so improvement there also. Some great passes from Smith but needs to work on his set pieces more, and at one point drifted through the Dumbarton defence but instead of smacking in a shot when he had space just wanted to keep heading to the byline, ultimately over running the ball. Aird did the same thing late on despite having the goal at his mercy. Poor, poor decision making and a reluctance to shoot on sight, more problems we've had all season. And as always happens, we bring Shiels on and suddenly completely lose control of the midfield. I don't give a toss that he occasionally scores late goals, he's a liability who has and will continue to cost us points with overhit passes, no defensive effort and clumsy feet. Those all apply to Templeton just as much, though he at least wins us free kicks. Speaking of which, yet more unfathomable, inexplicable, mind-boggling refereeing. Dumbarton players leaping into our box elbows first, taking clear swipes at McGregor off the ball and throwing themselves bodily in front of runners to obstruct them, all completely unpunished. And I'm pretty sure their keeper landed well outside his box holding the ball at one point after going over one of ours. Pretty sure there was no free kick awarded to them so how the hell wasn't one awarded to us? For all my moaning, actually pretty good today apart from the start and end to the match. Our confidence is understandably fragile so this was a decent win to get and maybe one we can build on. Until Celtic hump us that is. It won't matter that they're shite too, they'll still shred our defence. Totally confounds me at times that we're doing so badly and yet a side like Hearts can be unbeaten in this division - I watched their first half against Hibs and they were even worse than we were last week by some distance. They got 1 thing right in the whole of that half, and that was the shot for the equalizer. We need some iron at the back so we don't keep losing to pish like that. McGregor's good but he's probably at his best covering and mopping up. We need someone who can take the centre of defence by the scruff of the neck and get the ball out of there before it presents a danger, and who can organise the other defenders around him so we don't have any more situations where 3 of our defenders are running to pick up the same man, leaving 2 others free behind them.
