Well I suppose Lai used his own money, but just another thing that went horribly wrong, Not good enough if you want to Google translate the link Doh

Werder Bremen confirm they could terminate Yuning Zhang's two-year loan in the summer without him making a single appearance

Absolute shambles this is. £7.9million flushed down the toilet by Lai #WBA

I understand he can't play for us now as China are not sufficiently ranked in the world to generate a work permit for him. However, does that apply only in the PL so that, if/when we are relegated, he would be eligible for us? Anyone know?

Well what I can gather he had to play Two years with Bremen
Reading between the lines he wasn't good enough for the first or second team so was sent to play in their 3rd team which is their U 23's
So now as it was a two year loan and has he hasn't played for them at all I'm not sure he would be eledgeable even at the end of the loan period thus why Bremen want him gone,
As the title say's Shambles yet again
Although saying that did anyone expect anything different from him ?

The £7.9 million was out of Mr Lai's own pocket rather than through the club's transfer budget so that plus this season's inpending relegation with it's money losses will not make Mr Lai's finances look good. He will not be happy.

I doubt Zheng will play for us next season either so money well and truly wasted by Mr Lai.

He won't pull out but he'll decrease the money that is pumped into the club which would mean more reliance on parachute payments next season.

Wouldn't that constitute 3rd party ownership, which is against the ownership of players rules?? He may have paid it out of his own pocket but the registration is with WBA, so surely this figure has to be on the books somewhere doesn't it??

It's definitely on our books, but it was "sold" to us fans at the time as Lai making this investment on the player from funds he's put into the club, rather than what was already in the bank so to speak.

I remember posting about this at the time about it being a total scam and you would never see him in the shirt. He was then worth 700k on Transfermarkt he is now valued at £2mil so still so far away for this to be anything more than the publicity stunt which designed is to raise Lai's profile in China and his attempt to raise the profile of Chinese football
