Conceding too many goals
#1
We are conceding far too many goals in games and going behind first in a match. Since the Preston game we have conceded 12 goals and scored 11. I think we are missing the partnership of Hird and Evatt at the back and we probably need to tighten up at the back a bit more. I wonder if Leeds would let Cooper come on loan back to us for a few months? seeing as he's hardly getting played.

I hear what you are saying Matt but my plea to Paul Cook is do not change the style of play to try and tighten the defence .Its the best most of us have ever seen and if our open style of play means we concede more than most Ill live with that in order to continue the breathtaking, edge of seat footie we are currently witnessing .I've always said clean sheets win games but I am happy to trade that in for the entertainment we have on show and we are ,after all, 6th in the league so things aint that bad are they ?.

Obviously we are conceding too many goals and it is worrying that we do so at bad times in games, but I'm convinced that whole teams concede goals, not just back fours. The results, our league position, and our style combine to equal the best in my lifetime as a supporter and at 62 that makes it 55 years. Maybe a little tinkering might make a difference, maybe we need Boco on the pitch not the bench or something, but was Cooper so much better than a guy who played Europa Cup last season to make such a radical change worthwhile?

Long term I think we need to sign a permanent replacement for Cooper, due to Hird's injury. Cheyenne Dunkley at Kidderminster always seems capable of playing higher, but would require a fee, otherwise Halifax are worth looking at or a much cheaper gamble might find the answer at Buxton .............

What we are doing is so refreshing Pooch is absolutely right to enjoy it. I listened to Mr Cook after the game on Saturday and I wanted to applaud. He talked about having a bit of class in defeat. He did! In spades. I was proud that we weren't blaming the ref, the pitch, the opposition's sour attitude, or whatever. He praised Bristol, but he wants to go out and put things right against Oldham. Whether that works out for us or not I like winning or losing with style!

Spot on Dev ,it is difficult to pinpoint one area where we are weak and like you say it is down to the whole team to defend. Our sometimes cavalier approach certainly contributes to goals in both ends of the pitch in my opinion. As Cookie says .We win together and we lose together .

I suppose its not as bad as you say Pooch at least we aren't Crewe who have conceded 30 goals already. It just is annoying how we go behind first. I agree this is the best football I've seen in a long time its attractive, entertaining and exciting. A lot of opposition supporters say we look good. I suppose if it isn't broke don't fix it. I agree you win as a team and you lose as a team just like in Cricket.

Devon Buxton are playing fantastic football this season and I don't think they will want to lose any of there players, if they keep it up they will get promotion to Conference North.

I think if we want a Buxton player we'd get him Matt, just as Man Utd could have the pick of our team .....

I suppose every non-league player would jump at the chance to play professional footballer especially for us in L1.
