And yes this starts this season Sick Doh

Swearing at officials could now earn a red card for players as part of the English top flight's new laws implemented to combat "intolerable behaviour" on the field

The Premier League, English Football League and Football Association have outlined new laws to target "intolerable behaviour" in English football.

Beginning this season, red cards will now be issued to players who aim offensive or abusive language or gestures at referees during matches.

Yellow cards will be shown to any player who runs to confront an official about a decision, while a referee may book at least one player if they are surrounded by two or more team-mates.

Behaviour in technical areas will also be more strictly enforced as part of the plans to curb poor conduct, which the Premier League claims has reached "unacceptable levels".

The highest number of yellow cards accrued by one team for dissent in the Premier League last season was West Brom, who picked up nine.

West Brom received nine yellow cards in the Premier League last season for dissent; four more than any other club. Backchat.

"We and our clubs have been discussing for some time concerns that certain elements of player behaviour are overstepping the mark and it is our collective position that these types of behaviour should no longer be tolerated," said Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore.

"Things happen in the heat of the moment during fast and highly competitive football; we still want to see the passion fans enjoy and demand, but players and managers have to be aware there are lines that should not be crossed."

According to the statement, offences which could earn a yellow card now include:

- Visibly disrespectful behaviour to any match official
- An aggressive response to decisions
- Confronting an official face to face
- Running towards an official to contest a decision
- Physical contact with any match official in a non-aggressive manner
- When two or more players surround a match official (at least one yellow card will be shown)

Red cards will be shown when:

- Players confront match officials and use offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or gestures towards them
- Players use physical contact with officials in an aggressive or confrontational manner

Those issues certainly need attention, but the number one issue surely has to be Set-piece Wrestling. Why haven't the FA declared War on that problem? At the moment it's farcical, and new Laws need introducing. A new Official s/b positioned behind the goals (1 man could cover both ends) and given authority to penalise the perpetrators (usually Defenders) with immediate effect.

Discipline IS important, but Wrestling much more so imo.

Talksaft, agree, this issue needs dealing with, remember Olsson being wrestled to the ground in a wolves match, scharner being pinned down and getting booked for the privilege. Slight issue with one official covering both ends though, unless we can get 46 blokes with the pace of ussain bolt. Here's a radical idea ..... the fourth official could be sat inside the stadium watching a video monitor, instant replay, multi angle, right decision everytime ..... not to slow the game but to advise the men in black. The lino could deal with subs like the old days. Also you could have more accurate time keeping .... an end to three minutes added on or fergie time ..... stoppage time to actually represent time lost for stoppages.

it will never work
pissed off players confronting a ref has always been part and parcel of the game
granted they want this to cease but it never will
you cant control players emotions during a game

it will end up with numerous games being abandoned due to a lack of players on the pitch
and thats a statistic that should always belong to us(V Sheffield United first game abandoned due to a lack of players)

Disgraceful .... our players held themselves with impeccable resolve and control under immense provocation, very proud to be a baggie on that day. Still hate Warnock for his cheating telling players to go down and Sheffield United for behaviour which could of cost us promotion. Admired Megsons stand .... I will not bring an Albion team back here this season ...... cold have been costly if the league said play it again ... but he was right and justice was done, apart from robbing us of the chance to score more.
