Can you believe it was 20 years ago today? Share your memories of that day.

What I remember most is bursting into tears of joy at full time. Had to sit down I was so overcome with emulsion.  Big Grin

Was in my garden shed in Wester Ross when I heard the final score. Punched the air in delight and put a clout nail holding the roof felt into my knuckle. Didn't care though. Still have a scar though! Rather poignant as it was my Dad's last match and he'd always [in the dark days] said he wanted to see Town win at Wembley.

I think it was nice that we had a dress rehearsal for it the year before in the Autoglass Final. That was a day out. This was serious. And the players took it serious too.
I remember going in on the tube and chatting with Rovers fans, who were all a good bunch. Had a bit of a soft spot for them since and felt glad when they got back into the league this time around. It's only taken them 20 years since we beat them to actually go and win at Wembley. Big Grin
After the match, we bumped into the two blokes we sat next to at Leeds Road, a strange coincidence that has happened at other Play Off Finals since. Out of all the thousands there, we always end up seeing people who sit with us at home games.
Anyway, the game itself flew by and apart from the goals, I don't remember much about it. Had a really bad headache, I remember that much.
Great relief when we won. Thankfully we were out of that league and back where we belong. We won't make the mistake of going back down there again.  Rolleyes

And it still rankles that they wouldn't let us have a minutes silence for Harold Wilson, who had just died. When you consider they have minutes silence/applause for any excuse nowadays.

Can't remember exact details of the match, but it's the first game I can actually remember being at. I was only 7 and went down on the coach full of blokes from Kirkburton with my dad and brother. We'd been to the Autoglass final the year before but I can't remember that match, but this match I do remember, purely for the atmosphere and how massive it seemed. I remember people literally screaming and crying when Billy scored the winner, and then the screams and tension at the end when we were hanging on were unbelievable, grown men reduced to hiding behind their hands waiting for full time. Obviously I do that myself now but at the time it was amazing to see how emotionally invested people were with it all, and I think that's what got me so into it as well. It's probably my favourite memory of my dad as well, that and a few more matches just after that time.

Great day!

Early start for me, we we're going to Wembley on a bus organised to meet at a local pub in the next village so it was agreed that a few pre-journey beers and a full English breakfast were required that morning, when we arrived 6/6:30 we were late....some had been there all night and a few were still fast asleep on the seats in the pub.
Pretty neat n eventful journey to Wembley and I can't really remember much about the build up to the game, I met my family(all had travelled by car) in the seating area in the upper section right behind the goal. It was nowhere near full but had enough to carry the atmosphere created from below, I remember the Rovers end looking pretty full and the majority wearing the BR colours of the day green and black, they had great support that day (35k?)
First half much of a blur until the final minutes, booth putting us 1 up and the joy being short lived thanks to Marcus stewart.
2nd half I seem to remember Rovers having chance after chance and us Hanging on to Chris Billy's goal, how we won that day is still beyond me.
More celebrations on the bus going home and back just in time for closing...except it didn't until about 2am after we'd all had a skinful of beer and watched the highlights on the telly cheering every Town pass and goal again

I remember it like it was yesterday.
Had also been the year before for the Autoglass final (Swansea) but this was the one that mattered.
Got our noses in front early on, but Rovers pretty much bossed the rest of the half. No surprise when Stewart equalised...he was different class that day...best player on the field by far.
Thought we were going to get turned over 2nd half, but somehow Billy came up with the winner.
My mate had got us tickets for the posh seats, (his dad was high up in Mitre). After the game we managed to get back to the reception for drinks and meet some dignitries. I remember that smarmy MP Barry Sheerman being there and he was working the room like a pro. Recognised a few local tv people....and then in walked the Town players!!!!
I remember at one point going to the bar for beers, and just coincidentally having the exact money for the round. After saying "I think you'll find that's the correct money" to the bar girl, a voice behind me said "Typical bloody Yorkshireman...tight as a duck's ar$e" Turned out it was Iain Dunn. Shook his hand and congratulated him on providing the cross for Billy's goal.
Random memory, but after we finally left the function room, we managed to get into one of the old twin towers for a look around.I wish England had kept those towers.
Random memory 2...walking down Wembley way there was an East 17 concert that night at the Arena. There were just millions of young girls wearing next to nothing blowing whistles. Not a bad end to the perfect day.!
