Long range goals
#1
After Chelsea's win over Stoke today I noticed this on the BBC's live updates:

"Charlie Adam scored for Stoke from about 65 yards out (see 44 mins).
Well inside his own half. What are your favourite goals from distance?

Mark, Oxford: Saw Peter Leven score a 50-yarder for Oxford at the
Kassam. As he hit it I thought 'what the hell are you doing shooting
from there!?'"

Adam and Leven are both products of the Rangers youth system, so I was wondering: how many spectacular long range efforts have we scored at all since big Jorg was at the club (I don't mean they have to be scored from the opposition half)? I seem to remember Temps scoring one or 2 decent long rangers in 2012/13, but over the years I feel like we've scored very few (especially in comparison to the number we've seen fly in against us). Does anyone have any favourites in particular that they remember and am I right in thinking this is an aspect of our game that's largely been missing over the years?

(I know spectacular long range goals are by their nature relatively rare compared to your bog standard penalty box shots and headers, so I'm not saying we should see them every week, just that I think we would hope to see more over a season than we do).

Off the top of my head I can't remember one extra long goal by us. I wonder that the nature of the game means it's the less dominant side that is more likely to score this type of goal as that is when you see the opposition keeper sweeping the edge of his box making that type of effort possible?

Historically we'd be the dominant side and our keeper would be the one most likely to be lobbed.

Just a theory.

Well, Charlie Adam scored one for us back in 2007 -https://youtu.be/ZOtH5PwFOzY

Sure McCullich scored an absolute screamer at Ibrox a couple of years back in the old 3rd division.

Here it is Is - https://youtu.be/MBEWg4_hwnU

I thought it was the extreme variety we were looking for, Adam was 35/40 yards and Jig's was 25/30.

Just seen Adam's goal today against Chelsea. What a screamer. It was in as soon as it left his boot.

Aye, bar a goalkeeper fluke, I don't think you'll see anything longer. Certainly not intentional.

He made it look really easy too. Comes with a certain amount of talent and a lot of practice - he apparently takes shots like that all the time in training (maybe not at quite that distance). I'm surprised how few British players picked up on the Beckham model of putting in extra personal training time to develop a skill to the point of mastery. That's why we end up seeing so many Ian Black specials fly into the top tier instead of the back of the net, and why our set pieces are usually garbage. If our players were willing to put in that bit of extra time to hone a skill we'd see the benefits very quickly.

In all Fairness i think we will actually start to see set pieces , that work now given the coach is actually coaching players now .
