WBA vs Blackburn - Match Thread

A disappointing start to 2024 in South Wales was ameliorated by a necessary cup win last weekend, giving Albion a boost in time for our first home league match of the year tomorrow against visitors Blackburn. Following their win at Ewood back in August, Rovers are on the brink of doing the double against us for the first time since 2010-11, but that early success now seems a long time ago; winless for a month, a 2-2 draw against the mighty Rotherham at New Year broke a festive losing streak of four on the trot, and no team in the Championship has gained fewer points, lost more matches or conceded more goals than Blackburn since the beginning of December.

The finest Hungarian-Irish playmaker ever born in Essex, Sammie Szmodics, remains their key man since the departure of Ben Brereton-Diaz, and set up the goal which proved the difference between the sides last summer. But with our solid home form, their poor run and a decent overall Hawthorns record against the Lancashire side - now five games unbeaten since our last defeat at Christmas 2010 - we have to target three points in tomorrow's encounter, even if such stats do scream "banana skin" louder than Eric Wimp's dermatologist. Keep it tight, grab the first goal, and take things from there.

Great win today!
This is copied and pasted from the BBC write up, and it sounds like we're definitely on the right track:

"We’ve got our Albion BACK!!!

I haven’t seen displays like today for some years now. Brilliant today Albion.

These Albion players are performing and not just attacking with flair, with intensity and showing quality, they’re showing pride, passion and fight."

What more could we ask for?
