Salzburg RB 3 Celtic 1

This match started very well for Celtic with Edouard scoring an early goal to take in a 1-0 lead at HT. That 1st half defensive display without Broony was very good and alert. The 2nd half display was different and defensive frailties exposed by a quality side that "upped the ante" and were well rewarded. Celtic need to "dust themselves down" and move on to prob a decisive "double header" v RB Leipzig but without James Forrest in the 1st leg in Germany due to a red card pk offence. Still, all to play for but Salzburg definite favourites to win the group.

Disappointing result for Celtic after a great start. Not sure I can see them getting anything from the other Red Bull team either!!

Another good night for Rangers in their group. A nice 3-1 win for them coupled with a 3-3 draw in Moscow means they are top of the group after 2 games. Two games against Spartak coming up, that will be tough, but this group looks like one that might go to the last games. If they win their home games then they should make it.

Don't be fooled by that "nice" Rangers result SCO! I must comment that I watched most of that Rangers match and it was a horrible game full of mispasses, poor ball control, continual misreading of being in an offside position, and some of the defending was unbelievable - AN AWFUL GAME AND AN INSULT TO THE REAL CREAM OF EURO FOOTIE!!!! I suggest you watch the highlights and see how accurate my comments are. Rangers currently topping this group is absolutely baffling and a deception based on the standard of footie they actually play and I'm beginning to wonder if the other teams, Spartak, Rapid Vienna and Villareal are serious about this tourney at all based on their weakened teams that their managers choose!! Rangers will eventually meet a good Euro team, A FULL LINE UP that will "murder" them - I'll predict that now!! What a deception - it's bizarre and their current league position tells the "real story"! What a con!!!

0762, I never expected you to say any different!!! Laugh I didn't see their game, so will take your word on their performance, but whatever they are doing, or however dismissive their opposition are of the competition, its currently working for them!! Its only 1/3rd of the way through, but you can't fault the results. Seville are the classic team who while not that good took this tournament totally seriously and won it a couple of times, not saying Rangers are anywhere near that level because they clearly are not, but any team that takes it seriously against opponents who don't will have a chance of progressing. Its the old adage, you can only beat what is in front of you, and so far they are doing that. Whatever the performance or whatever you think about them, todays win was a "nice" result and puts them top of their group - couldn't ask for much more than that at this stage.

Its a good win for sevco and they played with a lot of energy, but a bit of perspective is required to be fair too. Rapid are 18 points behind salzburg in the austrian league. Salzburg got to the semi finals of the tournament last year and haven't lost at home for 2 years. The huns are in an easier group, its that simple and have a better chance of qualifying - although i still think its a big ask for them to get to the next round.

I totally agree and I know my footie, having played at a decent level and watched it for well over 50 years. IMO Rangers would be pushed to win the current National League in England.

Why do you think Scottish footie has been "entrenched" in international and Euro footie obscurity for such a long time - the reason is very self-evident and we keep kidding ourselves on with some of the most audacious "talk"/spin with Rangers FC very high up in the list of self gratification.

T oo much ranting & raving about how good the supporters and their numbers turnng up weekly . Brendan Rogers was found out down south and Gerrard is an experiment . Who can either teams attract player wise . ? The wage bills exceed the quality on show and the average player , and there are plenty , wont move on . Be good to see the supporters blank a couple of home games and make the respective boards sit up . Support is essential and ingrained , but step back , what are we watching here ? Where do average players and managers go from here , with some exceptions , into absolute obscurity . Opposition Euro teams don't give a flying fig about noisy support and piss poor teams . The points are there for the taking .

Following on from those comments, I forgot to add that this EL match at Ibronx was actually a view of two crap footie teams playing out a game of footie in a Euro tourney. Listening to Stevie G describing the performance as one of the most "magnificent" in his time in Govan - utter drivel and dishonest!
