In less than 12 hours time, it will be the one year anniversary of the Chapecoense plane crash where 71 of the 77 passengers on board died. They were on their way to the second leg of their Copa Sudamericana final. There was only 6 survivors; 3 players, 2 crew members and 1 journalist.

Now one year on, the club has surpassed all expectations. Having rebuilt the playing and coaching staff after the tragedy, the club currently sit in 9th place in the Brazilian Serie A with one match remaining and are 2 points and 2 places off a Copa Liberatadores qualifying place. This is quite simply a remarkable achievement and a great tribute to the innocent people who died.

I agree Josh, quite remarkable to achieve that in just one year.  It is rather like the Munich disaster when Man Utd repaired and replaced in a short space of time.

Thumb up

Chapecoense won 2-1 this evening and have finished the season in 8th place. They go into the qualifying round for next year's Copa Liberatadores which is the South American equivalent of the Champions League.
