Today I had the pleasure of meeting Roy Hodgson. I work part-time at a 4 star hotel here in Cornwall and Mr Hodgson checked in this afternoon with his wife. He is a genuine nice guy and I had the pleasure of having a little chat with him about West Brom with him saying some nice things about the club.
That got me thinking about sports people that I have met and would like to meet in the future, the main one being my idol Paolo Maldini. Who have you guys met and who would you like to meet?
Boing Boing.

Met Neil Warnock in reception of hotel when on a golf holiday. Called him Colin without realising what I had said until I had walked away.

I once met Alan (AC) Smith the former Warwickshire wicket keeper and, I think, England selector.
Regrettably, he was not such a nice bloke as he berated one of my cashiers who, not being a cricket fan, didn't know him from Adam.
Also got fairly friendly with former Wales scrum half Robert Jones and his former father-in-law Clive Rowlands.
Last saw Clive in a Swansea Hospital where we were both awaiting heart by pass operations and to pass the time the evening before his own operation, Clive joined us on the ward and went through his entire 'after dinner' repertoire which had us all in stitches (pun intended). A very funny bloke.
Although they were not sports stars, I can claim to have served a couple of famous actresses when working at a Bank in Birmingham. One was Donald Pleasance's daughter but ,especially pleased to have helped Julie Christie long before she became famous.
Wouldn't have minded going a set or two with her.
Some days I'm top dog, most days I'm just the lamp post.

My strangest one would have been in the early 90's when I met Muhammad Ali. I was rushing up the side of the Abany Hotel (Stevenson St) in Brum centre and literally bumped into him as he came out, a really nice guy. I even ended up missing the bus I was rushing for, worth it though.

Due to my former occupation I have met and spoken with / to many famous people, film, tv, sports, music, nothing special generally a few words in passing. At work one day when Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button came to my work place, due to the nature of my past employment they asked if they could have a photo with me, I agreed and they put it on their Twitter pages. It wasn't me they were interested in but the specialist equipment I was carrying.

A few years ago me, t' missus and another couple were on a five day tour of Ireland with our last night being at the very good 5* Ballnahinch Castle Hotel in Donegal.
We were in the bar (there's a shock) studying dinner menus and who should pop his head round the door but Billy Connelly. I was facing the door and only I saw him - the others didn't believe the Baggieman thinking I was kidding them.
Anyway, went in for dinner and Billy and a young girl who turned out to be his daughter from his first marriage, followed us into the restaurant and they sat at next table. It was one of those hotels where you take coffee etc in one of the lounges so we got up from the table voicing the usual "Good evening" pleasantries and t' missus hesitated which lounge we should go in. Billy and daughter having finished their meal at same time passed us in the corridor to a small lounge and Billy came out saying "Come in here, it's empty"
We ended up spending the whole evening with them with him telling us his life story and heritage which was Irish. He was brilliant company and you might not believe this but, he never swore once apart from telling us about his broken down lawnmower which he said "the f***ing fuckers f***ing fucked!" which, grammatically speaking, was perfectly correct!
Billy, being an alcoholic wouldn't have a drink on us but we smoked a fine cigar together. A top quality man and so sad to see him now with a form of Parkinson's. His downside was although he is a footy fan, he doesn't support the Mighty Baggies upon which, I called him a Jock twat !

Nah 4eva.... they spotted you were a Baggie and were in total awe of you in spite of what you were carrying and I can guess the genre of what that was!

Jeff Stelling twice, This one is left of centre, slightly strange meeting place, first time was in a service station toilet on the M1 in Leicester, we exchanged pleasantries whilst doing our business, (that sounds awful) and at Birmingham Airport a few years ago when he was on my flight to Florida, talked football at length, very friendly and only to happy to talk to a fellow footie fan!!
