F.A.Cup Final
#1
I don't suppose I'll bother watching this Evening.
How dare the F.A. stage this tournament at anything but 3pm. It's become as pointless as The Charity Shield these days.

Without sounding like my Grandad this used to be the pinnacle of the Season, and I don't think I'm alone in saying it was more prestigious than winning the League not that long ago.
Kids at School would test each other:  Who won the Cup in 1927 (or whatever), and you'd get in the answer the 2 teams, and the score.....now I couldn't even tell you last year's finalists. (Maybe it's me who's just lost interest).
We would get up excited for Grandstand's Noon build-up:

It's a Knock-out between the Finalists' Supporters
The Road to Wembley
Question of Sport between old players of each side
Meet the players
Wembley Way, talking to the fans
then, without commentary, "Abide with Me"

Magic!
Mind you, years ago, it was the only live match we'd see (except for The Amateur Cup Final 2 weeks before!)
Such a shame!

Yeh, my thoughts exactly, talkSAFT - however I'm an old fart too!
I remember getting picked for our school cricket First XI for the first time in about 1971, and the cricket 'master ' (as we called him) had arranged ONE Saturday game in the whole season - on FA Cup Final day. He said he couldn't make me play but if I didn't, he'd never pick me again.
I loved cricket but watching the final live was, as you say, a real must so I said no.
That was the end of my school cricket career!

Probably won't even bother to watch any highlights today.....

Nice one, Drewks!
Reminded me I got chosen for a Greater B'ham Rugby trial at KES Camp Hill, but we were playing Everton that night, so I just "forgot" to turn up for his lift. I got a Detention and The Rugby 'Master' never picked me again all next season. (He was an Albion supporter as well, and he knew where I was that night!) Laugh

I haven't watched an FA Cup final in a number of years but, did so today.

Surprisingly good game with both sides attacking whenever they could. Real end to end stuff.

Also pleased that the referee bit the bullet and sent a player off for diving. (second yellow).
About time this happened.
Perhaps we might see a few more cards given for holding, blocking, barging in the back etc.

A final thought that had the game been played at the normal 3.00 pm I wouldn't have seen it as I got chosen to go shopping with the wife. Whistle Whistle

The best bit was when the winning captain got handed the trophy by Queen Victoria Whistle

Cheeky b*stard. I got in 1/2 price for that game - had to have a shave and everything.
